Don’t know how to feel about partner’s small lies and where to go next

My partner and I have been dating for 5 years, but I recently found out he told a lie about the content of a racy social media channel he follows and donates to, and also about his porn usage. I emphasized that honesty was very important in the beginning of our relationship, and now I don’t know where to go next, and how big of a deal this is in relationships. [more inside]

I need your help! Please share your healthy, high-calorie recipes

I have drug-resistant depression. Over the last decade, I've been able to manage it and life in general through a combination of maintaining a healthy weight, exercise, acupuncture, meditation, and a whole bucket of cognitive and behavioral skills to help me through the rough bits. The healthy weight is the key for me - if my weight drops below a certain threshold, everything else fails. Due to unavoidable life circumstances, my weight has dropped significantly below that threshold. I need to put on 7 pounds as quickly as I can from healthy foods, and I am having trouble just brushing my teeth let alone doing recipe research. Please share your favorite healthy, high-calorie, simple to prepare meals, with immense thanks in advance.

Brother threatened to shoot me (over text) over small argument

My brother (42m), who i've had a mostly chill though superficial relationship with growing up, has been getting really into weaponry. Recently, we had a small argument * over text, not in person * - we live in different cities - where he tried to get me to do something I wasn't that comfortable with (though not that big a deal), and I stood up for myself, and he got angrier and angrier and said if I were there he would shoot me/use his weapons on me, and made it clear he was not joking. Now I don't feel safe around him and not sure what to do next with our relationship. [more inside]

How to Clearly, Effectively, & Kindly Cut off Contact

I previously engaged in casual intimacy, remained in unhealthy friendships, and overall hesitated to enforce my own boundaries with people. This was most likely out of fear of not being liked, or that people would stop including me or wanting to be around me. I've been doing crucial inner work for about 1.5 years, and am now in a place where I neither want, nor have space for, these people in my life anymore. Help! Protein classroom snacks for kindergartners, without dairy or nuts

I have always been impressed with the collective culinary skills of MeFi, so give us hope! A good friend has a new kindergartner. She is responsible for sending a classroom snack multiple times throughout the year. At home, the family eats incredibly healthy, well-balanced, tasty meals, mostly “real” foods (e.g., not processed) with an eye to making sure there’s some protein somewhere in the mid-day snacks. Friend was just informed that there is a dairy allergy AND a nut allergy in the class. She is not opposed to a bit of at-home baking or prepping to achieve this goal, but most of her go-to kid snacks include either dairy or nuts. What are some other kid-friendly options?

Give me your snack ideas!

I need snack ideas as I'm bored with my current options and find myself buying chips and cookies and stuff more than I want. I'd like low-sodium/low-lactose (so yogurt probably out) and vegetarian options that are relatively healthy and aren't super carb heavy. Right now I rotate unsalted cashews, fruit, homemade popcorn, and string cheese but I'm tapped out on other idea. Savory better than sweet. Thanks!

Been taking too much melatonin. Suggestions on healthy alternatives?

I’m taking too much melatonin. In the past, instead of taking so much, I’ve tried taking CBD and Valerian Root, but neither has had a noticeable effect. Is it because I’m not taking enough? Does smoking a moderate amount of weed on the weekends have an effect on why CBD isn’t working? Lastly, are there any other healthy alternatives you’d recommend other than / in addition to CBD and Valerian Root?

How can I stop having dysfunctional relationships?

In my dating history there have been some good experiences and many bad ones. I am a woman in my mid thirties and I feel somehow resentful about the bad dating experiences that I have had. I don’t know how good-looking I am but I guess I am sort of good-looking, at least, this is what some men say to me. I am quite fit and I guess that I have an ok/pretty face. I am a good person too and I guess I’m quite smart… But I also have faults, one of them being, I guess, that I am quite lost in life and that I haven’t been very successful in my career, because of different bad decisions that I have made and because of obstacles that I have had to face that were out of my control. I don’t have any debt though and I am not in a terrible financial situation, but I guess that I could be doing better in that department. I feel that some men that approach me don’t take me seriously or don’t respect me because of this (they don’t say it, but I sense it). Because of this, sometimes I think that I shouldn’t think about men now and that I should focus on my career. [more inside]

Dating: separated with alcoholic parent. Aiming for the healthy version.

Thinking with me would be much appreciated! People who’ve been in a relationship after separation, or have had an alcoholic parent, or have tried to choose a better partner after making not great/bad choices in the past, who've made changes for the healthier in relationships and anyone who has a sharp eye for good choices! I’ve made bad relationship choices before, where I put way more energy in and didn't keep my eyes open. Partners had under-the-surface untreated psychiatric problems that they didn’t know of or were in denial about, or simply did want a relationship at all. I’ve grown up in an abusive household, where one parent for a time had a problem with alcohol. I've lived and learned, trying to be careful. [more inside]

What does a healthy straight parents/queer child relationship look like?

Last week, I finally cut off my mother for trying to drive a wedge between me and my spouse again, repeatedly implying I was only angry because I must be mentally ill, and rewriting the last ten years of our relationship to make the problems between us purely the fault of my spouse's influence rather than the result years of increasing tension, mostly about my queerness.
