How do you practise body acceptance while improving your health?

(CW: weight stuff) I am fat and I really want to not feel bad about that. What does body acceptance look like for you? Is there a way to take the idea out of my head and turn it into a lived practice, while still actively working to improve my health? [more inside]

Best camera strap for short, fat, curvy bodies

I like to wear my (mirrorless) camera cross-body while I'm on photo adventures, but because I have a super short torso, very wide hips, and a large chest, it never sits quite right--it either dangles too far while I'm scampering around, or bounces off my hips too much, or is too tight to quickly & easily grab. If you are also short-torsoed and curvy, and you're happy with your cross-body camera setup, can you recommend a strap? Or suggest techniques and best practices, in case I'm just doing something wrong?

Fat-friendly telehealth doctor (or in San Diego) for covid advice

I live in San Diego and would love to find a local fat-friendly/Health At Every Size general practitioner who could provide medical advice to me specific to my needs about what mitigation I need to use, when I can safely travel, etc. But I have had a very hard time finding someone local, so I am also very open to telehealth! Painful Lower Belly Fat

Over the past 6 months I've developed a lot of lower belly fat that under certain circumstances makes me look oddly pregnant. The trouble is that this area *hurts* and is an ongoing source of pain, heaviness, and pressure. I also have a lot of lower back pain, a frequent need to pee, and frequent IBS-like symptoms. Is this just part and parcel of weight gain, or am I missing something?

Do you eat the fat cap on a steak?

I've always cut around the fat on steaks because I find it chewy and kind of gross. I get that if it renders out it will make it juicy, but I'm talking about the fat that doesn't render. Cuts like Ribeye with fat marbled through the steak just seem stringy and unpleasant to eat to me. However, I've been watching videos where people rave about the fat and how that enhances the experience, so I've tried eating it the past few times, and it's still a hard to chew rubbery texture that detracts from the meat. Am I doing something wrong, or are the people on those videos crazy?

Does the fat-accepting weight loss forum I need exist?

I am a very fat fat-acceptance activist. I also have some very real health issues that would be alleviated with some moderate weight loss, and I've grown weary of quite literally not fitting in to a world that wasn't made for me. I could lose a hundred pounds and still be very fat, still be part of the fat acceptance community that means to much to me and has helped my mental health immeasurably. Inspired by Roxane Gay's recent essay about her weight loss surgery, I'm working on rectifying within myself the desire to continue to be a loud advocate for fat acceptance and critic of the diet industry, with the desire to make my own life a little easier. The problem I'm finding now is that there's no community I can find where it feels like these goals can co-exist. [more inside]

Is Suet not a major ingredient in US cooking?

Because of a few comments in response to this FPP, some follow-up backchannel conversations, and general web searching (though I'm not an expert in things cuisine online), I'm confused about Suet use in the USA. As described in Wikipedia: "Suet is the raw, hard fat of beef or mutton found around the loins and kidneys." It's used in various traditional British puddings. I can't get a clear handle on US use (or non-use), so my question is: Is Suet a common ingredient in similar dishes in the USA? (examples appreciated).

Best plus-size raincoat/ rain jacket

I'm looking for the best plus-size women's raincoat or rain jacket that fits my criteria (must be actually attractive and work for PNW downpours.) Wishes: Cute, good color, fits size 22/3XL, prefer a structured/adjustable hood and cuff adjustment. I would like a real coat for the outdoors, not a fashion-y coat. I tried a size 2XL from North Face and it was much too tight, though I could zip it, so NF is out. Stomach sticks out, though not overweight. What professional could help?

(I'm a woman, UK-based.) I think I might have "anterior pelvic tilt". I think my belly has always protruded, even when I was underweight - although more so now that I'm at a BMI of about 20 (I feel like a lot of the weight I've put on has gone to my belly). The sticking-out part is mostly from just below my belly button downwards. I don't know how to tell if it's fat (visceral fat rather than subcutaneous - so I don't think pinching the skin on my stomach would work) or a posture issue. I *think* there's a posture problem (because my back does seem to have a fair bit of lordosis - I can slip a hand all the way through the space when standing against a wall), and maybe also a visceral fat problem in addition. I don't like my belly. What professional could I go to to a) figure out what the problem is b) help me fix it? I'm thinking a physiotherapist?

I make 50-something gallons of stock a week at the restaurant where I work. We make the stock from roasted bones; beef, chicken, veal, etc, no veg. We make the stock in either a steam kettle or a very large pot. Sometimes the fat, when cooled, creates a very solid layer on top of the stock. Sometimes it is mushy and soft like a slushy. What gives? , I still haven't figured out the variable that creates a soft or hard fat layer. [more inside]
