The opposition Social Democratic Party increased its lead over Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's National Coalition Party in Yle's latest parliamentary support survey.

The survey found the SDP garnering 24.4 percent of support, a 1.2 percentage point increase over Yle's previous parliamentary poll. The last time the country's biggest opposition party received that much support in the monthly survey was in April of last year.

Coming in second place was PM Orpo's NCP, with 19.9 percent support, while their government partner, the Finns Party, ranked third with 15 percent support. Only small changes in support were seen for the largest of four parties in the coalition government.

The opposition Centre Party was the fourth-most popular in the latest parliamentary survey, seeing a slight 0.3 percentage point increase to 13.4 percent support. It was the best result the party has seen in these surveys since April 2022.

Other parties in the opposition saw improved support, including the Left Alliance (9.2%) and the Green Party (8.5%).

Meanwhile, the coalition government's two smaller parties saw declines in support. The Swedish People's Party received 3.6 percent support, reflecting a slight decline of 0.3 percentage points. Support for the Christian Democrats (3%) dropped by 0.9 percentage points.

While PM Orpo's government parties saw declines in Yle's latest survey, support was not at its lowest in recent history. As of Friday, the government parties received support from 41.5 percent of respondents — reflecting a slight improvement over the lowest point of 41.2 percent at the end of last year.

Yle published the findings of two party support surveys ahead of the county and municipal elections on Thursday. They also found the SDP would be the most popular party, if the elections were held now.
