Twins 10, Angels 5: Relief

The Twins broke their four game losing streak, scoring runs early and often.

The Twins offense really needed to get out of the slump they’ve been in the last week or two, and tonight, they did. In the bottom of the 2nd they got 3 consecutive hits to score a run, then Kyle Farmer blasted a 3-run homer to left to give them a 4-0 lead. The rally sausage is back, folks.

In the 3rd, Matt Wallner hit his 12th homer of the year, a solo shot to push their lead to 5-0. Then a sac fly RBI by Ryan Jeffers made it 6-0.

By the top of the 5th, Pablo Lopez was cruising, with perfect 3rd and 4th innings, but an error by Edouard Julien in the 5th extended the inning. Taylor Ward singled to give the Angels their first run, then Zach Neto hit a 3-run homer to put them back in this game.

With how things have been going lately, you’d almost expect a collapse after something like that, but in the bottom of the 5th Carlos Santana hit a 2-out 2-run homer to put the Twins up by 4. Then, in the 6th, Matt Wallner hit a 2-run double to give them their 6-run lead again.

Lopez recovered after the 5th inning, tossing a clean 6th inning and striking out 3 in the 7th to stomp out the makings of a rally.

DaShawn Keirsey Jr. picked up his first major league hit in the 8th inning, beating out a grounder to first base.

Louie Varland took over in innings 8 and 9, surrendering just 1 run in the 9th, giving us our 10-5 final. Overall, it was nice to see the offense score a bunch of runs.
