This is a mock draft based on Pro Football Focus' big board. I guess I was drafting for need, but I also was drafting nearly the best player available at almost all rounds, and getting good value at the same time while finding several starters or part time starters for the Rams at positions they need.
I made a trade early on and packaged our 2nd, 4th, and next year's 3rd rounders for the Panthers 2nd and 3rd rounders this year. I wanted 3 players in the top 100, and got it.
Here we go.....
2ND ROUND FELIX ANUDIKE-UZOMAH EDGE 6'4" 260 Kansas State 4.73 40 The Rams biggest need is a pass rusher and I feel like this guy is the best at pick 39.
3RD ROUND CODY MAUCH LT 6'6" 305 North Dakota State 4.88 40 I think this is the best left tackle available in this round and maybe in the draft. He's certainly the fastest, and shined in the Senior Bowl. Held his own against tough competition against players from major schools, and as a bonus, played every position on the offensive line, which McVay LOVES. I think he's our LT of the future.
3RD ROUND (in trade) TANK BIGSBY RB 6'0" 215 Auburn 4.48 40 I like this guy, and based on Gamo's report, I think he fits with the Rams as RB#2 behind Akers. Just hoping he gets back his mojo. I'd rather have Zach Charbonnett, but we won't get him unless we spend our first pick on him, and we need edge rushers and offensive linemen more.
5TH ROUND JOSH WHYLE TE Cincinnati 6'6" 260 4.63 40 Possible Higbee replacement. Another fast, tall hands catcher who can block and run after the catch. What's not to love?
6TH ROUND RICKY STROMBERG C 6'4" 315 Arkansas 5.15 40 Big and strong and plays with a nasty streak. My kind of player. Good value in round 6.
6TH ROUND CAMERON BROWN CB 6'0" 200 Ohio State 4.29 40 One of the fastest players in the draft, with good ball skills, willing to tackle and defend the run, good at press man. Yes, I'm an Ohio State homer, but I think this could be a terrific value, being a special teamer early in his career while Aubrey Pleasant works with him to make him a shutdown corner. Other very fast CBs have become very good in their first year...Eric Stokes comes to mind.
6TH ROUND JADON HAZELWOOD WR 6'3" 220 Arkansas 4.48 40 I love tall, fast receivers who can block and run after the catch.
6TH ROUND D. J. DALE DT 6'3" 310 Alabama 5.30 40 The Rams may need another defensive tackle, and this guy has about the same build as Greg Gaines. Low enough pick that he won't be a bust if he doesn't pan out.
7TH ROUND HABAKOOK BALDONADO EDGE 6'5" 260 Pitt 4.79 40 Another big, quick linemen, and he's from Pitt. Love his name, and gives Aaron Donald a home boy to take under his wing. I think this could be the steal of the draft.
7th ROUND DANIEL SCOTT S 6'2" 215 Cal 4.64 40 Good size for safety, good tackler. Not as much speed as I'd like, but very good field awareness, ball skills, and extreme toughness. No relation to Nick...but he hits like he does.
Let me know what ya'll think. And I wanna see Champ's draft and some other of ya'll's drafts too.
