Many people who post on this sight say something to the affect of "I am not down on this team, I am just being realistic."
Well let's take a look at what is going on in the "real" world with this team.
Basketball is the team game played with the least number of players on the floor. The Terps have won so many games this year because they have either the best player on the floor or close to it. This player is the one, the only, Melo Trimble. Those two threes he hit against Nebraska to seal the game didn't come close to hitting the rim. This young man has ice water in his veins, he puts pressure on defenses, and he is growing with each contest. Players win games. Melo is a player who is very rarely out classed. I think it is no coincidence that his injury problems coincided with the blow out games. And here's the thing, throughout the course of a game, Jake and Dez will have stretches where they carry the team for a bit, and Melo falls into the background. But when the game is on the line, we have someone again like Juan. Someone who the moment is never too big for.
The reality is Melo plays for our team. The reality is Melo is awesome. The reality is Melo has won many games for us this year and hopefully will win many more in the future.
I also find it very interesting that so many stats can be found to say how the Terps are not as good as their record because they have a habit of doing this and that. Well what they also have a habit of doing is winning. This team has made big plays when the other team hasn't. Is that luck or mojo?
I love stats, but you know what I love more, wins.
And some will say that this team is gonna lose in the tournament to team that doesn't have the talent or pedigree that this team has. And I will say that is a safe bet. But. Was Villanova better than the Hoyas? Was NC State better than the Cougars? Yes, for one day at the right time they were.
There may be patterns in the stats and metrics that say this team is not very good. The pattern I see is winning. So give me all of your efficiency ratings and adjusted offense/defense rankings, and I will still point to one thing. The scoreboard. Because realistically that's all that really matters.
