NC State women's basketball coach, Kay Yow, died this morning after a long and inspirational battle with breast cancer. She was 66. For those of us who have been following college athletics in the Triangle area, Yow has been a fixture on the scene having taken the job at NCSU in 1975 when women's basketball garnered very little interest. Yow ended up winning 737 games, led the Wolfpack to 20 NCAA Tournaments and one Final Four. Under Yow, NCSU won five ACC regular season titles and four ACC Tournament crowns. In many ways Yow was one of the many trailblazers in women's hoops laying the groundwork for the popularity enjoyed today.
Thoughts and prayers to Yow's family and to Wolfpack Nation as a whole as they endure this terrible loss.
