Box Score Page

This page contains the box score and play-by-play description of a game.

At the top of the page there is the following link:

Day - to the daily page

After that there is the date of the game, a day/night indicator, and the name of the ballpark.

That is followed by the game's line score. On each line, the runs scored by the team in each inning is listed (with a break after every three innings). After the last inning (and a "x" is displayed if the home team did not bat in the bottom on the last inning) there is a "-" followed by the team's total runs, hits and errors in the game.

The next section contains the batting totals for each team's players. The players are listed by batting order position (lead-off hitters listed first) and any substitutes for a starter are listed immediately after that starter, indented and appear in the order they entered the game.

The following statistical information is displayed for each player:

AB   -  At Bats
R    -  Runs Scored
H    -  Hits
RBI  -  Runs Batted In
BB   -  Bases On Balls
SO   -  Strikeouts
PO   -  Putouts
A    -  Assists

In some cases where complete play-by-play is not available, the putouts and assists will not be displayed.

After this, there are summary lines containing some categories not included above. The following fielding summary lines are included:

DP   -  The number of DPs turned by the team
E    -  Errors
PB   -  Passed Balls

On each of these lines except DP the player's name is displayed. If the player had more than one of these, the number follows his name. Following that, the player's total in this category at the end of the game is included in parentheses.

The following batting summary lines are included:

2B   -  Doubles
3B   -  Triples
HR   -  Home Runs
SH   -  Sacrifice Hits
SF   -  Sacrifice Flies
HBP  -  Hit By Pitch
IBB  -  Intentional Bases On Balls
Team LOB  -  Team Left on Base

On each of these lines (except Team LOB) the player's name is displayed. If the player had more than one of these, the number follows his name. Following that, the player's total in this category at the end of the game is included in parentheses as well as the name of the pitcher(s). For home runs, the inning, men on and number of outs is also displayed.

The following base-running summary lines are included:

SB   -  Stolen Bases
CS   -  Caught Stealing

On each of these lines the player's name is displayed. If the player had more than one of these, the number follows his name. Following that, the player's total in this category at the end of the game is included in parentheses as well as the base and the name of the pitcher and catcher involved.

The next section contains the pitching totals for each team's players. The pitchers are listed in the order they appeared in the game.

The following statistical information is displayed for each pitcher:

IP   -  Innings Pitched
H    -  Hits Allowed
HR   -  Home Runs Allowed
R    -  Runs Allowed
ER   -  Earned Runs Allowed
BB   -  Bases On Balls
SO   -  Strikeouts

Pitchers receiving a win, loss or save are identified along with their record (for wins and losses) or save totals at the end of the game.

After this, there are summary lines containing some categories not included above. The following pitching summary lines are included:

WP   -  Wild Pitches
BK   -  Balks
HBP  -  Hit By Pitch
IBB  -  Intentional Bases On Balls

On each of these lines the player's name is displayed. If the player had more than one of these, the number follows his name. Following that, the player's total in this category at the end of the game is included in parentheses. For HBP and IBB, the batter's name is also included.

After this, the umpires who worked the game are listed along with the official scorer (if known), the outcome of any replays (for games from 2008 to June 2017 only), the time of the game, and the attendance.

If known, the official scorer's name is displayed next the game are listed along with the time of the game and the attendance.

If play-by-play data is available for this game, the starting lineups are listed next, followed by a description of each inning's play-by-play. At the end of each half-inning, the runs, hits, errors and men left on base for that half-inning are listed followed by the current score.

At the end of the game, the final runs, hits, errors and men left on base are listed for each team.
