Bcachefs and schedext for sure have been the massive ones for me, all my devices now run bcachefs in some form or another, been stupidly reliable for something that just got mainlined, performance is good and having things like reflink/dedupe and compression is nice to have on a FS that isn't glass.

    as for schedext, fps stonks.

    that's all

What did you enjoy most out of the Linux kernel in 2024
Nothing, I have enjoyed absolutely nothing about this political clusterfuck.

I have enjoyed nothing about political activists invading open source projects as community managers or coc enforcers of some kind and inventing reasons to remove the most valuable contributors as if they're deliberately trying to destroy these projects.

I have enjoyed nothing about random countries succesfully imposing borders on previously borderless open source projects, as if that's a normal and sane thing that we should be letting happen without even the slightest resistance.

And I have enjoyed nothing about some people pretending that the house isn't on fire.

sometimes it's better to let a house burn down completely and build anew then it is to put out the fire and try to rebuild

Damn crazy it went from an article of people getting removed to a discussion about politics, war crimes and military equipment. At least people get to know something about the Moronix forums

Well put; the whole thing fucking disgusts me.

And on an unrelated note... a very Merry Christmas and/or Happy Winter Solstice to all of you!!!

What I take from the discussions on these topics is the old saying: Don't feed the trolls.

There are a few groups that have become very active in online communities in the last few years and they are not interested in rational, productive discussions. Any attempt to do so will be immediately derailed by offtopic, inflammatory and just plain old trollish comments that purposefully impede discussion. Some of these groups are very likely composed of AI bots.

I believe the number one thing we can do to revert this is to refuse to participate in the circus show. Don't engage with useless inflammatory posts, don't let yourself be swayed by online discussions which are likely being manipulated by one or several groups, and don't believe you have no choice but to accept the state of matters.

The main way these groups gain power is by swaying online discussions, engaging with them in any capacity means they win. Ignoring discussions you know lead nowhere and only engaging with people you believe you can have a productive discussion with is the most effective way of undoing this damage.

I'd maybe say that calling it out and then ceasing engagement might work better, it's not always obvious for the bystander why these people are ignored/blocked.

They bend over backwards to accommodate him and, yet, every cycle since Bcachefs has been accepted upstream there's been some sort of issue around either being on time or how he talks to others.

From an outsider's perspective it's rather bullshit that they'll punish Kent but not Ebassi over at GNOME. He's just as bad regarding how he communicates with others.

Russia invaded Ukraine so they received geopolitical sanctions. They fucked around and found out. The consequences of those sanctions means that organizations registered in countries that are against Russia can't work with the Russian government.

Granted, I'm not surprised that you and others here don't grasp that invading another country has consequences since y'all don't grasp the simple concept of Kent agreeing to a Code of Conduct and then being punished after multiple violations over multiple years. I can understand why you don't understand that breaking the rules has consequences. We live in Backwards World where a man can be a convicted rapist with 34 different felonies and instead of having sentencing like every other rapist felon he can instead become president. We live in Backwards World where a man can create an AI that kills 10s of thousands of people is celebrated because he increased the shareholder value but the man that kills him is labeled a terrorist and might get the death penalty while a man that kills 10s of kids and teachers shooting up a school gets life in prison. Nothing makes any sense in this world.

I bet y'all there's a very high probability that the AI that Phoronix used to create this image is also used to make decisions that kill children. It trains on X/Twitter which is a known platform of child exploitation.
