I'll lead with the lead. What if AR has simply shown everyone in the building that he is not the future?
We as fans have seen what we have seen. We were sold on raw, with the opportunity to stop the death cycle at QB in AR. We've seen raw with glimpses, but a fair amount of flaws as well.
Let's think about the fan bases who actually saw that the raw QB was not good. The Jets have had a couple in Donald and Wilson. They were calling for Donald's ouster, which produced Wilson. I think Jet fans would say they stayed too long with Wilson. How about a guy like Daniel Jones who showed just enough to get a big contract, which the team would be happy to get off the books at the current price. Decisions about these guys were made relatively early in their careers.
My question goes to the "what if" the team, regardless of their claim that he is part of their future, simply thinks it might be best to cut bait? If he is not the future, what is the best way to maximize his value?
Do you not play him and hope that their is a lot of "Intrigue", or do you play him and hope he shows more glimpses?
I'm playing the "what if" game. If the Colts are truly hitching their wagon to AR, my post is mute. But, if they operate under the thought of it being better to trade a guy a year too early, than a year to late, are they taking the right approach to maximizing his value? A hurt player has little value, but a guy that continues to show that accuracy is a problem, also loses value.
I'm not sure I know the answer to this one.
