Wow, the Sixers should have taken Jayson Tatum.
With Philly finally trading Fultz to Orlando at the trade deadline, it’s the end of an era for the Sixers. From the start of his rookie season, Fultz’ shot form had never been consistent and at times was just pure ugly. At the beginning of this season, Fultz was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a nerve disorder in the shoulder that prevents normal range of motion. No, he did not have the “yips” or “psychological issues”.
Let’s give Fultz the benefit of the doubt: his shot looked better back when he was in college. Once he got to the pros it just wasn’t the same and it got to a point where the Sixers just had to get rid of him. This is a video of Markelle’s NBA jumper at its absolute worst:
However, since Fultz’ form was clearly altered by injury, I’m not willing to call it the worst form in the NBA. Therefore, in honor of the end of the Fultz era, here are 5 players with worse shooting forms than Markelle Fultz:
1.Joakim Noah, Memphis Grizzlies
I don’t even know where to start with this one. Joakim Noah literally grips the ball with both hands as he shoots and gives his shots an ugly, sideways spin. Then as he shoots, his right arm flies outwards; in theory, he should have little to no control of his shots and his form is why he has never made an NBA three.
Noah just looks so unathletic shooting this tornado of a shot:
2.Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Charlotte Hornets
With the second pick in the 2012 NBA draft, the Hornets took Kidd-Gilchrist, knowing he had a major hitch in his shot but with hopes he could fix it over time. Sure, it’s gotten better since his rookie year, but he still provides almost no threat as a shooter. The picture for this blog pretty much sums up his shot: his right arm flies inward like a chicken wing and at its worse, MKG was releasing the ball on the way down from his shot, taking away the power in his shot.
3.Lonzo Ball, Los Angeles Lakers
If we’re talking bad form, how can Lonzo Ball not be on the list? Scrutinized continuously since the start of his rookie season last year, Zo’s shooting form is pretty bad. He pulls the ball up on his left shoulder, but shoots righty. Seriously, how come at no point was someone like “yeah Zo, that’s not the way to a shoot a shot.” Where was Lavar then?
4.Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors
Have you ever tried shooting a basketball with a heavy backpack on? If you have, then you’ve shot the ball with similar form as Draymond Green. Not that the Warriors really need Green to be a prolific three point shooter, but it’s worth noting his career 3PT percentage is 32.2% and it’s worse this season, at 24.3%.
5.Amir Johnson, Philadelphia 76ers
Fultz’ shot wasn’t even the worst on his own team. From what I’ve seen from the Boston and Philadelphia media, Amir Johnson seems like a great guy. But on the court, he should legally change his name to Trashmir as he has been extremely unproductive over the past 2 and a half seasons. He’s also began taking 3s a lot more this year (mostly in junk time), and there’s a major hitch in his shot. Skip to 1:08 in this video for the best view of his broken jumper.
