On Sept. 8, during the MSD Board of Trustees' quarterly meeting at the Columbia campus, Michelle Smith-Ailstock ('81) and Deborah Stokes-Hill ('84) were honored with resolutions for their outstanding dedication as co-chairs of Columbia Campus's 50th Anniversary Celebrations over the last four years. Their vision and leadership infused the celebration with a profound sense of history and continuity, ensuring it paid tribute to the campus's cherished legacy. They hosted several community events, including the Reunion, Gala, and 50-mile Cycling Event, while also fundraising for a scholarship fund dedicated to Columbia students. Their exceptional efforts in event planning and fundraising were especially commended.
Additionally, two middle school students from the Columbia campus, Michaela Allen-Raeke and Cynshir' Lomax, were featured in the Student Showcase segment for their participation in the spring production of "Barbie Across Hollywood." The presentation included a video recap of the production, with the students sharing their experiences in creating the performance and how they felt watching their work come to life on screen. They were accompanied by Visual Arts Teacher Minja Jung Sanderlin and Digital Media Teacher Brian Suchite, who supported them through the production.
