A UK-based Formula 1 team now owned by German automotive giants Mercedes, they entered the sport in 2010 taking over from the title-winning Brawn GP outfit and luring Michael Schumacher out of retirement to help establish the works team.
Their results were initially modest until F1's Hybrid Era began in 2014. Using engines far more powerful than those of their competitors, Mercedes won eight constructors' championships in a row, led on track by Lewis Hamilton. Other than team-mate Nico Rosberg's 2016 success, the Brit won ever drivers' title between 2014 and 2020 and became only the second seven-time champion in history after Schumacher.
But the current regulations have not been kind to the Silver Arrows and they have been limited to just a handful of race wins since the start of 2022. And now they must adapt to life after Hamilton following the 40-year-old's decision to leave for rivals Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season.
George Russell is now the team leader, joined for 2025 by exciting teenage prospect Andrea Kimi Antonelli who was hand-picked by team principal and chief executive Toto Wolff to replace Hamilton.
