What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

Simple enough. "Samizdat" is Russian for "self-published." As a lover of William Gibson, I happily appropriated his neologism (from Red Star, Winter Orbit) for a simple to remember domain name. Thus, it also made a handy nick...

Didn't think so.

Anyway, decided to become a MeFi because there were more topics than just boobies and strange news, plus (and I try to be reasonably thoughtful with them - thus the amazing lack of them) my topics actually get posted, instead of devoured by certain other sites...

Ummmm, Samizdata on Steam also, as well as, well, just about everywhere...

Now, if I could just find some MeFi's in the area... (The only one is the ex...) Well, I found one, but they don't answer their MeFi mail.

I would also like to volunteer myself if any MeFi's out there need an ear. Memail or email me and I will share telephone/Skype contact info.
