Crowdsourcing Support for Creators: "Is it idealistic? Hell yes, it is."
John and Hank Green of the Vlogbrothers have launched a new subscription service called Subbable, that aims to crowdsource support for content creators through direct payments, rather than through the typical model that uses advertising. Subscribers can pay nothing and still view the content, but those who opt to pay earn Perks from the channels to which they subscribe. Right now, the vlogbrothers' educational channel Crash Course is the only content available, although applications are being taken for other content creators to join...assuming it works with Crash Course.
Hello learned and astonishingly attractive pupils.
Two brothers and two awesome courses in one awesome channel: John Green teaches you world history and Hank Green teaches you biology.
where do i find a to-do list app that will plan my time for me?
I am in love with the concept behind the web app Taskk.it, a to-do list/time management tool that schedules your tasks and creates a daily/weekly agenda for you. But it seems to be an abandoned project and is too buggy to use. Please help me find another solution!

I'm a boring person and I want boring music to go with my life.
I want boring music to listen to. Not even elevator music: hallway music. Dull, faceless corridor music. Cheesy, soothing, soft. Commercial music, the kind of music that men in the 1970s thought would induce people to feel groovy and buy stuff. The music that plays in Animal Crossing while you get your haircut. Ceefax music. Music you'd hear in an old Mad Men episode. Music that just sits there and doopey-doops while I concentrate and get important stuff done.

Simple pleasures: or, how to have a good (great) day?
Because I often need inspiration and a gentle nudge or two, I like to hear what others 'simple pleasures' are in life, this list and this other list being two examples I'm keen on.
What simple pleasures do you all enjoy? What makes for a great day, especially one you're spending by yourself?
Super short tips and tricks for ADHD and / or depression
I'm struggling today with both. The ADHD makes searching for help a little more difficult than normal. Can you give me (really short) one liner suggestions for making it through? Mostly focusing on being productive, and coping strategies, but also maybe ways to be kind to oneself.
Booty Call Song
Name a song that unambiguously and sexily says "let's get it on." (omit the obvious answer, please). Is there a song that, if sent to you, would immediately raise your pulse and get you looking forward to delights to come?

I want to hear about your weird yummy pizza orders!
My in-laws order pizza a lot. They love it. Some people pepperoni, some just cheese. No matter what I do, it's always dry bread with cheese and grease. I'm even getting tired of Hawaiian style, my favorite. Help me innovate more pizza ideas!
Oh, quinoa, how I love thee

Help me level up my camp cooking
Looking for ideas of really great food to bring on a car camping trip. Bonus points if it involves cooking over the campfire. I am attending an annual family long weekend camping trip with my fiance in a few weeks, and am drawing a blank on what to bring foodwise. I'm looking for ideas of main courses suitable for dinner as well as side dishes or dessert, that will blow people's socks off.
What goods+services will make my travel easier?
In the next few months I anticipate much U.S. domestic air travel for job interviews. What sorts of goods and services can I acquire (or put on my holiday wish list) that will make the traveling part of this process easier?

If Podcasts Were Hot Dogs, I'd Be Kobayashi
I spend 10+ hours per week commuting, 40+ hours wearing headphones at work (open-plan office: boo!), and ANOTHER 5+ hours wearing headphones at the gym. As such, I plow through an absolutely obscene volume of podcasts. I'd like some recommendations for more (lest I be forced to spend even a single second alone with my thoughts). To help you get an idea of my preferences, here are a few lists:
What features would your dream house have?
We will be building a new house to live in, what features could we add to make this the best house ever?
Good non-addictive arty videogame recommendations?
What are some good videogames for the PC that have the fewest grindy, behavioral "Skinner Box"-y qualities?
What song lyrics have inspired you?
I'm looking for songs which have lyrics that are inspirational, particularly in terms of moving forward, overcoming adversity, or not losing hope. What made you think "things will be ok" when you first heard it, especially if it wasn't something you would normally listen to? Whether it's just a line, verse, chorus, or the whole song, all genres are welcome.
In search of... some meal plans.
I used to be a pretty good cook and I enjoyed cooking, but haven’t done much of it in the last few years for various reasons. Now, I have an awesome boyfriend who makes me great food, and I want to do the same for him. What I need are some ideas for full meals—not just single recipes but main and sides, etc., and specific recipes or links to specific recipes to accompany them.
Barcelona in a flash!
Trying to plan a *very* short, cheap, but very special trip to Barcelona later this month. My partner and I aren't great at planning and we're feeling overwhelmed by all the possibilities against the limited amount of time we have. Halp!

The Salt, NPR's food blog, explains how Leanne Brown was inspired to develop a cookbook for people on SNAP. Leanne published Good and Cheap[PDF] as the capstone project for her MA in

A dozen gazpachos from Mark Bittman
The simple chilled soup is perfect for steamy August days.
Gazpacho is so easy that children old enough to manage a food processor or a blender can make it themselves. But whether or not you have pint-size sous chefs at your disposal, a recipe that requires minimal effort and in most instances no heat is always a good thing this time of year. So, here is that ubiquitous summer standby done a few ways that you’re probably familiar with and a bunch more that you’re probably not. (If Thai melon gazpacho is already in your rotation, good for you, and I surrender.) The “recipes” here amount to little more than lists of ingredients and quantities, because the method doesn’t bear repeating 12 times: Combine everything in a blender or food processor, process to your desired texture, chill in the refrigerator if you like, garnish and eat.
Amazing Men's Leather Bags?
This is my current bag, a military surplus canvas haversack. I love it. This is the bag I'm coveting. I would love to love it but it is Way To Much Money. Where is the bag that meets these two in the middle? Where are the Excellent Leather Men's Bags on sale? I am looking for something I can carry without comment (and will last) for the next 20 years.
Help make my birthday dinner HOT
I want to make a large number of small plates of various very spicy and very delicious foods for my birthday next week. Super spicy and super delicious are tied for value in what I'm looking for; I'm not interested in recipes that are all about the heat without being tasty (I'd just pass out grilled peppers if that were the aim). I'm especially interested in finger foods and things that are relatively quick to make, but if it's super delicious and is worth the wait/work, more substantial or utensil-requiring undertakings are also welcome.
If This Then That
I finally installed IFTTT but I feel like I'm not getting as much out of it as I could.

So my Mom is on low carb diet and her birthday is coming up...
I don't have a clue what to make her for a dessert, I have been trying to find ideas on internet but I would really like to make something simple that doesn't call for odd ingredients I don't have. I see you can get low carb ice cream and I was thinking maybe using that as a starting point - what can I make that would be good?
Seeking Classical Music Recommendations
I like to think that I have eclectic taste in music... but the one major hole in my repertoire is the (vast!!) field of Classical Music. What can you recommend I give a spin?
Pump up the jams
Canning mefites, lend me your wisdom! The fruit in my neighbourhood grocery store is delectable and cheap, and this year I want to experiment with slightly more interesting jams and jellies than I usually make. So far I am considering strawberry-basil, peach-ginger, cherry-vanilla, and plum-cardamom jams, but that has about exhausted my creativity and I am eager for new inspiration! What are your most delicious unusual preserves?

grain-free make-ahead salads?
I love to make a huge vat of salad to eat throughout the week. I'm looking for recipes for such salads, which will stay good all week already mixed up. No pasta, please!
Tell me your go-to songs that make you cry.
I feel many emotions when I am listening to music - happiness, melancholy, goosebump-y, etc. - but I rarely find albums that can bring me to tears. I just bought a Non-English album that brought me to (mostly joyful) tears many times; the experience was almost cathartic. Please give me songs (in any language, or even without any singing) that provoked a strong emotional response in you the first time you heard it - I'm talking powerful feelings like awe, joy, sadness, etc. that would make you tear up or outright cry. Details inside.

What cooking chemistry should I know?
What are basic pieces of kitchen science that would be helpful for me to know? I'm most interested in baking but cooking is okay too. Things like the effect of salt or liquid on a recipe or whether I want my bread dough to rise in a dry or humid area and why would be really great. I'm okay at following recipes but I'd absolutely love to know why different ingredients and combinations have different effects and how I can use that to my advantage.
Bondathon without the Bond
2 years ago my husband got all huffy and insulted that I hadn't seen all the James Bond movies and instated "Bondathon" where we watched one Bond movie, in order, every sunday every week until we got through them all. He had it all timed out so that the final week coincided with the release of Skyfall. I may not have liked all the movies (Oh my god, "You Only Live Twice" is utter crap!) but I really liked the experience otherwise. Give me some suggestions for other movie -athons that we can have.
Best resources for learning Google Apps Script?
The company I work for is starting to use Google Docs more frequently. I'd like to jump in with both feet. One of the things I'm most interested in is getting up to speed on using Google Apps Script as an end user who makes frequent but basic use of macros in Excel (so not so much as a developer or other high skill user). What are the best learning resources for this? Books, online tutorials, webinars, etc. anything is fine, just trying to figure out where to begin.
What are some interesting facts about Microsoft Excel?
I work extensively with Microsoft Excel, and I'm putting together a list of little known facts about Excel for a presentation. I haven't found much on the interwebs that's exceptionally interesting. Does anyone have any facts they can share that come from off the beaten path?
Let's get sauced....
How do you make your pizza sauce at home? Looking for recipes and tips! Especially for white sauce or non-standard "sauces" for pizza.
Furniture for the decorating challenged
I'm decorating for the first time. I want things to look nice and not "grad school chic". Difficulty: I hate shopping and don't have a lot of time to spend fussing with things. Where should I buy stuff and how do I find out what I like? Is there a website where I can see a beautiful living room and click to buy what I like from it?
