Programming Language for a Product Manager

My career has always been on the peripheral of more technical roles and I've excelled without getting to code-specific knowledge but in my job search everyone seems to want a product manager who can use code, even if it's not part of their job. What language should I learn?

Website Monetization

I am looking for four things here: A) Examples of successful one-man-shows or mom-and-pop shops that support the author B) Personal anecdotes if you have firsthand experience with making money online as an individual (or small shop) C) thoughts, analysis and maybe articles regarding which kinds of monetization work for which kinds of sites and why and D) what tools exist beyond AdSense, PayPal donate buttons, Café Press and the Amazon affiliate program for making money online?

Practical books about making the leap to Self-employment?

Looking for some book recommendations for someone who wants to move from 9-5 to self-employed in an artistic field (specifically writing, but the book needn't be so specific--just not about say, starting a manufacturing business). But only looking for PRACTICAL books. I keep picking up things that look practical that end up either being more "inspirational" or that are trying to cover too broad a base, from people who want to open a bake shop to people who want to do web comics.

Paris and what else?

Mr. Kitty and I got into the Paris Marathon for 2015 (yay!) We decided to make it a long vacation. We plan on spending 3 weeks in France - the first week will be mostly adjusting to time difference, marathon running, and recovery. The second week actually exploring Paris, and the third week....is a giant question mark

Do IT Jobs REALLY Have to be This Way? Is It Me?

Hello all. I'm a software developer, and I seem to be a magnet for batsh*t when it comes to jobs. During interviews, I've been outright lied to. Once I get on the job, I invariably find the positions I take are just not what the interviewer made it sound like they would be. Ultimately, I find these jobs descending into madness. Literally. I've found myself on the receiving end of everything from disrespect to downright mentally abusive behaviors.

Recommend me unexpectedly compelling interviews

Serious and fascinating interviews with people (celebrities, musicians, whomever) who are not usually considered serious or fascinating? By the metric I'm using, Lady Gaga or George Clooney are probably a tad too highbrow; Tom Clancy or Katy Perry are fair game. It doesn't matter who the people are, what they do, or what they're known for, only that they are generally not taken especially seriously or considered to be all that interesting.

Indian restaurants in the Northwest

New to the Seattle area (again, it's been awhile) and dying for some good Indian food. Where do I *need* to go? I'm not afraid with venturing out of the city if there's gems to be found.

How to search Facebook profile content?

Is there a way to search through your own Facebook Profile, specifically your status updates? Alternately, is there some sort of third-party app that would allow me to gather/download that data and dump it into a local program and search that way?

Upload iPhone Photos while Multitasking?

iPhone App: I want to upload EVERY photo I take, to Flickr, immediately after being taken. This means that I want the app to upload in the background, REGARDLESS of what I'm doing. I may hit the home button and go on to another app, or I may just throw the phone in my pocket. I want the new spiffy multitasking to work as promised and upload my photos. I want to use this as my main camera app. I use a 3GS, so multitasking does work fine.

Website to track previous travels?

I'm looking for some sort of web service that will keep track of previous travels and do things like make a map with pinpoints of where I've been, where I've been in the past year, etc. Mapping out highways taken and the like would be even better. Sort of like Brightkite, but without the whole social networking thing. I don't care about planning future trips or booking flights or hotels. Does this even exist?

What was the first website to hide troll's activity to everyone but the troll himself?

In this article, Clive Thompson says Disqus invented "selective invisibility" -- the moderation technique of hiding the activity of troublemakers and trolls from everyone but the troll themselves. I know this can't be true, mostly because I implemented it on Upcoming.org back in 2003. But I remember the idea floating around long before that, and some old online communities definitely implemented it, but I can't remember which ones. Any old-schoolers remember?

Help me find a web site that I should have signed up for years ago.

[Find-that-website] So. There's this website where you would enter everything you do everyday - what you had for breakfast, what color shirt you wore, what TV shows you watched, whatever. After you had compiled enough data, it would come up with dubious statistics relating things you have done against world news and other users. For example, I might find out that every time I have eggs for breakfast there's an earthquake in SF, or that some guy in California wears a purple shirt every time I forget to floss. I might have found this on the blue or in PC World, and it was probably sometime around 2006. I've been looking for this site forever. Help.

how to manufacture 1000+ units of new, custom fabric based product?

I've made a new fabric product that I hope would sell 5000+ units. For viable efficiency I need to buy manufacturing of the product or its parts. I don't want to reveal my product idea, but let's use a SLR camera bag made in sturdy fabric as an example. My product has similar materials, size and complexity. How do I go from there?

Help my Bedroom Community Survive

Help me with this Urban Planning problem. I live in your typical bedroom community on the perimeter of a large metropolitan area. We have about 30,000 residents and a lot going for us in terms of community and location. We're going to get hooked up on the regions new commuter rail system, but it's on the far side of the community and I don't see it getting much use without a feeder system of some kind. Our regional mass transit system sucks otherwise; so we're on our own to develop an intra-community system that will keep our community vibrant, green, and support commuter rail.
