great tits!
It definitely read as satirical to me, meant to be read as being spoken by someone who made the choice to listen to Jenny's views on medical issues not because she has any authority on the matter, but because the listener liked her tits.

As a woman with tits, I am not offended by the aforementioned comment in the least. I am, however, greatly offended by Jenny McCarthy's views on vaccination.

Maybe we could mint our own MetaDollar coins to pay for it.

A Deficit of Deficit posts
It's just not a holiday without someone accusing the mods of deleting things due to their political agenda.

And now that that's out of the way, we should be moving on to Feats of Strength soon, because I don't want to miss those.

Thank you for sharing your husband with us, mrs holdkris99. I won't ever hear the Beastie Boys (or Lionel Ritchie, for that matter) without thinking of him and smiling.

The amazing eulogy you've written here is heartbreaking, but it's filled with so much warmth and beauty. The depth of your love for each other shines through in every word.

It was so generous of you to share your thoughts and memories with the community, and to give us the gift… [more]

Oh man, that old white guy singer question. Who was he??

Must...not...reproduce...thread.

Aaarrghh! It was so frustrating seeing the "closed to new comments" note at the end! I've been wracking my brain and I'm guessing that the singer was Gary Wright and the song was Dreamweaver.

Let's just pretend I'm right. It's the only way I'll be able to sleep.

Through his prophet dunkadunc, God said: 𝔓𝔢𝔬𝔭𝔩𝔢 𝔠𝔞𝔫 𝔭𝔬𝔰𝔱 𝔤𝔦𝔟𝔟𝔢𝔯𝔦𝔰𝔥 𝔴𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢𝔳𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔥𝔢𝔶 𝔴𝔞𝔫𝔱. But he only said that to keep up the illusion of free will. What he really meant was: People can post gibberish wherever they want, but they'll burn in the fiery pits of hell if they do.

Teach odinsdream how to braid!
I also braided my own hair while reading the thread, and I've still got a giddy grin on my face from checking my handiwork in the mirror. Thanks to odinsdream for asking the question (sending good braiding wishes -- you can do it!) and to hermitosis for spotlighting it, I feel 30 years younger! Now, where are my roller skates?...

What is Cool for $500!
I haven't watched Jeopardy in quite awhile, but I'll tune in for a chance to cheer on a fellow Mefite!

Is anyone taking up a collection to persuade chicobangs to make a MetaFilter reference during the host-contestant chitchat?

Social Apps Changes
3.) The service and linked page must be human-readable (no RSS) and available to the public without a login. [emphasis mine]

A lot of people's Facebook profiles aren't available to the public without a login.

Not that it's any of my business since I don't link to any social apps in my own profile, but as a very nosey curious person I'm just wondering how you police something like that or if some of the services are exempted?

Sorry to be a pain, but that's not true in practice. For instance, when I click on the Facebook icon in your Metafilter profile, Jessamyn, it redirects to the Facebook login/signup page (even though a mouseover shows that it's supposed to go to your Facebook profile page).

No problem. I didn't mean to sound like I was saying "Well you can't allow Facebook then!" (although I do sound that way by even bringing it up in the first place, heh).

Truth Dare or Torture?
Okay, so, on the uncanny hengeman scale of favoriter favoritism, this is the data we have so far:

favorited by a 4 digit user number = feeling chuffed

favorited by a 6 digit user number = eyes glazing over

I want to know what the appropriate response is for receiving a favorite from a 1, 2, 3, or 5 digit user number. If we're going to adopt this system, it needs to be complete!

What's the big idea?
Are front page posts supposed to have a "point"?

No, but they are supposed to have an antipode.

Apropos of nothing, the answer to "What's the point?" should always be "The point is: Don't lose your dinosaur."

Love Minus Zero No Limit
Even though I wouldn't be interested in clicking on those kinds of videos, I know they have a worthwhile purpose when presented in a factual, non-sensationalized context, but the way the MeTa post is worded, it sounds like someone describing their morbid excitement at having discovered the Faces of Death series sitting on the dusty VHS shelves at the Goodwill.

I'm not casting aspersions on you personally, Xurando, just on the way the post comes across. I'm sure you have… [more]

InfoDump data manipulation?

That isn't how it works here, though, which is something I guess I need to get used to or stop participating entirely.

It's better if you remind yourself that it's not personal. If you've only had 6 answers deleted out of 134 (the current total on your profile page) you're doing pretty darn good.

any deletion is a tragedy, an evil

No answer is an island entire of itself; every reply
is a piece of the thread, a part of the green;
if an answer be deleted away by the mods, AskMe
is the less, as well as if a whole post were, as
well as a comment of thy friends or of thine
own were; any answer's deletion diminishes me,
because I am involved in answering.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the delete button clicks; it clicks for thee.

Sssssnakey
Aww what a nice story!

I'm not a big fan of snakes, but I was a temporary foster mom to a trio of ball pythons and a red-tailed boa years ago when one of my husband's Army buddies was being discharged. He and his snakes stayed with us for about a month, and then the snakes stayed for another couple of weeks while he moved back to his hometown and got settled.

My daughter, who was three years old at the time, fell in love with those snakes, and… [more]

inbund links

I know that's just a typo of "inbound links" but my brain parsed it as "inbred links" and I thought that would be a great term for posts that are not technically self-links but are the "you are too close to the material/site/creator" situations.
