Quirky delivery for grandpa's birthday
My dear old dad is turning 80. I'd like to have something special delivered to him on the day, but something a little more interesting or silly than flowers. Caveat that it can't be food as he's on a restricted diet. He's in the US and I'm not, so suggestions of specific companies very welcome. (I really want to send a singing gorilla, but they seem hard to find out where he is in the boonies :)

Have you had quiet guard? Not a mouse stirring.
Grand Theft Hamlet is a British documentary about the staging of a production of Hamlet inside of Grand Theft Auto. Directed by Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls, the film premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award for best documentary feature. The film will be released theatrically in the United Kingdom on December 6, 2024, by Tull Stories, with Mubi released the film globally in addition to US theatrical release in early 2025. wiki

Sex! Gender! Queerness!
Meg-John Barker has moved on from being an academic psychologist and practicing psychotherapist after publishing books and papers on bisexuality, consensual non-monogamy, sadomasochism, non-binary gender, and Buddhist mindfulness. Now they make graphic guides and zines to reach a much wider audience. Wondering what a queer relationship looks like? Or how you actually talk about consent in a relationship? Or maybe how to stay grounded when you are full of scary feelings? They also just published an anti-self-help guide to love, sex and relationships called Rewriting the Rules.

Great bodyscan meditations?
Looking for a longish (15+ minutes) guided bodyscan audio. I'd like one with a clear, calm voice and pauses built in for reflection. Don't want anything religious or woo, just someone guiding you through a scan of your body and its sensations. Ideally without a subscription, but happy to pay for a one-off. Do you have a favorite?

Modern math theory for little kids
My kid is 6 and really enjoys math. Her teachers have already given her a solid understanding of basic multiplication, division and algebra. But we haven't done much at home, and I'm wondering how to support her interest. I'd like to educate myself a bit first. Could you recommend things I can read/watch to better understand doing math with kids? My own skills are solid (technical career) but I don't know much about teaching!

How do I wear dresses?
I've been wearing a uniform of skinny jeans, tee, sweater/cardigan, and black boots for decades. I'm ready for a change and could use advice!

Making friends for sweet 12 year olds?
My warm-hearted, gentle, sweet 12 year old niece is short on friends and has asked for help. She is friendly with kids at school, but doesn't have anyone she's particularly close to. Due to a busy family (younger siblings) and lock-downs she hasn't done much extracurricular activities and now feels at a loss. How can we help her find good pals?

Novels with undercover crones?
I'd like to read page-turners (mysteries, thrillers, spy novels) where older women play important strategic roles. I'd love a novel starring Dorothy Sayer's Miss Climpson and her colleagues in the typing agency. Or a heist executed by a ring of 50-something jewel thieves. Anything where women are people rather than A Lady - in leading roles without being honey-pots. Give me your crone-island detective novels please!

Example of the same deliberate choice again and again?
Looking for an example from a book, movie or tv show where a character repeatedly deliberates about which action to perform, and each time makes the same choice. So, every Friday after school Suzy's dad takes her out for ice cream and Suzy looks carefully at all the flavors to decide which one to have. And each time, she chooses chocolate.

US bank account for US citizen but not resident
I'm a US citizen and live in the UK. I don't have a US bank account, and I'm headed to the US for a family emergency where it would help if I did. My stress-addled brain can't handle the google advice, which is all for US residents who aren't citizens. Could you suggest a bank in San Diego where I could walk in and open an account with a US passport, UK residency card and license, and a cash deposit?

How does this window open?
There is a small old window in our house (in UK) that we have never been able to figure out how to open. It ought to open like a door, there's a handle on the left and it should swing out. But there are two latches keeping it closed. Bottom one is easy to figure out, but the top one is a mystery. Pics showing the mystery latch from the front and from the side, and one of the window as a whole. Advice?

Literature has more dogs than babies
When I became pregnant four years ago, I was writing a book about 19th-century British poetry and war while teaching classes about the history of war literature. I began to think about the discrepancy between how we narrate these experiences. We have a rich, challenging, and complex canon of war literature...The same cannot be said about a literature of pregnancy or childbirth or parenting, though these are also extreme experiences that stretch our understanding and push us beyond comfort or even comprehension.

essay on quality control in science?
I'm looking for an essay that was referenced here which proposed a scheme for multi-step quality control in science research and publishing.
