Carin Miller is a Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist with the Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling (the Center). As a Peer for the Center, Carin assists individuals within Maryland struggling with problem gambling and gambling addiction to navigate recovery treatment resources and helps individuals find a successful path to recovery.
Carin started volunteering in 2011, supporting countless individuals and their families with drug and alcohol addiction. Carin’s drug awareness advocacy became a necessity to save her own family, of which two members are in recovery from Opioid Use Disorder. She provides peer support in hopes no other family will have to endure the pain her family has. Her accomplishments to date prove her dedication to help others through her personal lived experience. In 2016, Carin co-founded a statewide non-profit and as director continues to support those seeking substance use treatment, services, and resources. In addition, Carin founded and facilitates Save Our Children Peer Support Group, one of the longest running weekly peer support groups in Maryland.
Her creativity in fundraising efforts have given many people help and hope by providing funding for food, clothing, short-term housing, and transportation. Her passion to help others who suffer is her chosen lifelong journey. As a peer, she always makes herself available to help those in need. Supporting those with gambling addiction has become a passion and she strides to help those seeking support.
