🎉 Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: Youth & Young Adult Apprenticeship Day 🎉 Today, we had the honor of hosting over 250 juniors at the Second Annual Youth Apprenticeship Summit, an inspiring event held in partnership with the Howard County Office of Workforce Development. Our Howard County Public School System students had the opportunity to hear from influential leaders such as: - Portia Wu Esq., Secretary of Labor, Maryland - Calvin Ball, County Executive, Howard County - Tracy Kyttle - Director, Apprenticeships and Industry Recognized Credentials, - Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) - Jeffrey Smith - Workforce Liaison and Program Analyst, U.S. Department of Labor These keynotes emphasized the importance of youth and registered apprenticeship programs and the impact they have on building a skilled workforce. The summit also featured: - An Employer Fair where students connected with local business partners. - Workshops on cover letters and resumes, equipping students with the tools they need to pursue career readiness. - Career Exploration through Virtual Reality! It was a day of learning, growth, and inspiration. We are incredibly proud of our students for taking the next step in their career development and thank all of our amazing business partners and guest speakers for their support. Special shout our to our amazing Career Readiness Advisors for all their support and coordination! Jill Altshuler, Matt Gittermann, Erin Isch, Grace Dellinger, John (BJ) Henderson, Meghan Kulzer, Monica Stevens, Lisa Clearfield. Happy National Apprenticeship Week! Registered apprenticeships are a huge component of Pillar 3 of the Blueprint, College & Career Readiness. Apprenticeships are key for high school students to explore careers and earn credentials to set them up for success as they enter the workforce. We are so thankful for our partners, especially our LEAs, Workforce Development Boards, and Local Government officials who support many apprenticeship programs across Maryland.
