Gov. Wes Moore just announced a $1.8 million award to BCR Cyber and the Maryland Association of Community Colleges to bolster Maryland's cybersecurity talent pipeline. The announcement was during a ribbon cutting at Howard Community College for a cyber range: a special training environment that simulates real-world cyberattacks. “Cyber ranges provide the hands-on experience that employers demand and workers seek,” explains Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu. This pilot investment will give 1,100 prospective cybersecurity professionals access to cyber range training! https://lnkd.in/eusbFPMR #MDOL #MDlabor #MarylandLabor

Announcing the new Road to Careers program, Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Portia Wu shared: "One of the most exciting parts about this partnership is it's going to fund people with the things they need to succeed. Training and education isn't always enough to get where you want to go. How can someone participate in training and succeed if they don't have childcare, a uniform, the right tools? [...] Let's remove those barriers. Let's let help people keep moving along the pathway to success." This $24 million federal investment in Maryland’s transportation and construction workforce will create opportunities and build infrastructure that all Marylanders need and deserve, thanks to a close partnership with the Maryland Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration. The Howard County Public School System was the first in Maryland to have students graduate high school while they were also participating in a Registered Apprenticeship program. Now, those grads have completed their apprenticeships, earning $70,000 to $80,000/yr as licensed electricians right away, and more students are ready to start that journey. Maryland Department of Labor Secrtary Portia Wu was thrilled to join Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)'s Tracy Kyttle today in speaking with 250 students from #HCPSS about the tremendous opportunities that apprenticeship offers. #NAW2024 #ApprenticeshipUSA!
