BreakingT featured in the The Washington Post: Commanders’ rise has merchandise sales booming There’s perhaps no greater sign of the Washington Commanders' makeover than the DICK'S Sporting Goods outpost near the team’s Northern Virginia headquarters. Six display racks along the center aisle of the store brim with Commanders merchandise, including dozens of Jayden Daniel’s No. 5 jerseys, licensed hoodies and a “Hail Jayden” T-shirt commemorating his Hail Mary touchdown pass. “At this point, if you’re a young Commanders fan and you don’t have a piece of Jayden merch, what are you even doing?" Jamie Mottram, president of sports apparel company BreakingT, said jokingly. “This season, Jayden is by far our number-one-selling NFL player.” Known for its unique designs that play on iconic moments, BreakingT is responsible for the “I Survived the Snyder Era” shirt, about which former coach Jay Gruden joked on social media, “Glad someone did!” After Daniel’s Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown, BreakingT created three new shirts in 24 hours – one with a diagram of the play, another with “Hail Noah” in gold lettering above an image of Brown and the other with “Hail Jayden,” which hangs from one of those racks at Dick’s Sporting Goods. “Washington hasn’t been timely or relevant for positive reasons in a long time,” Mottram said. “So now that they are, when you walk into Dick’s, you will see that presence.”

BreakingT's Nicole O'Keefe featured in Front Office Sports piece on women's sports licensed merchandise. "Beyond expanding capacity for production and distribution, plus securing more licensing deals, O’Keefe believes one key for companies to crack the market is treating the development of women’s sports apparel the same way from the design stage. BreakingT, whose designs draw heavily on athletes’ social media moments, monitors the women’s sports landscape as much as men’s." https://lnkd.in/eeMmXMic

Last Monday was a great day in our nation’s capital. I was out of the house before sunrise, and got home just before midnight. Sure – BreakingT’s business is real-time merch, but really, it’s about real-time marketing. We did something special at Nationals Park last week, and I think every pro sports venue should bring us in to do the same. We are at your service to enhance the fan experience, create deeper connections between fans and athletes, and help drive customer loyalty and incremental revenue. HOW? Save some marketing dollars for those unexpected, uncertain, magical moments that are impossible to pinpoint during fiscal year budget planning. And then be ready to POUNCE, with a nimble partner like BreakingT. Nationals #1 prospect James Wood was called up on Monday 7/1. Just a couple weeks before, he was injured and not even playing with his minor league team. But he got better – and when you get the call, you get the call. In less than 48 hours, BreakingT had printed 10,000 “James Wood Welcome to the Show” limited edition shirts, exclusive for in-venue at Nats Park – delivered to the stadium, and distributed to all gates in time for opening. The promotion was announced to the public, ticket sales frequency soared in the first hour, especially for a weekday game in a holiday week. We knew it was a success. The team got their ROI. BUT – what really clicked for me was seeing the fan reaction. I was at center field gate watching the fans receiving their shirts, which were completely handed out almost an hour before first pitch (another signal that the promotion had worked well). I stayed for the game with my family and a few friends. Every time James Wood came up to bat, the whole stadium would stand up and cheer through every pitch, all wearing their new BreakingT shirts. The stadium was a sea of red. James Wood had arrived, and we were witnessing new fan connections form in real-time. And he got a base hit his first at-bat! It was a special day all around. Go Nats!
