Fire up that green egg, wear something red, white, and/or blue and salute your shorts because it's Memorial Day. But not only are you taking a Monday off in May, but the Seattle Mariners will be gifting the Colorado Rockies with a visit to Coors Field for two game series? This is actually that weird home and home series that we've been doing with the Padres for the past couple of years, does this make the Rockies our new natural rivals? I mean it might make a little more sense than San Diego. I was in Denver for twelve hours once, so I'm basically an expert in Denver. My final verdict was that Denver is Seattle with somehow more one way streets. Replace Rainier cans with PBR cans, make it a little colder in the winter, have it harder to breathe, and you have Denver.
At this point, the big major difference between Seattle and Denver is probably the quality of the product coming from their Major League Baseball teams. The Rockies are kind of good, and I can't explain it, because I make this statement based on A. Seeing Jonah Keri tweet something about it a few days ago (albeit, this weekend has been a drunken blur) and 2. I just saw their record in the series preview.
You (namely, the editors) are probably wondering, "dope thread, Scott, does this mean you're doing the recap?" Unfortunately, I will not be. It is Memorial Day, and I have, what they call in the baseball blogging biz, better things to do. So taking on the chart and recap today will be Ben Thoen. He said in the Slack this is his first recap, and I have no reason to not believe him. Give him a follow/digital hug on Twitter and be nice to him. That is an order.
