It is common knowledge around these parts that there are no "must win" game until the game is literally a "must win". Constantly countering that knowledge we also have our stupid, fickle hearts that tell us hey the team's slow start hasn't buried them yet. Look at those fangraphs playoff odds:
I am neither smart enough nor interested enough in pain to figure out what the odds would be if their record was, say, 11-8. The important thing is the data still says the Mariners have a great chance at putting Felix Hernandez on a mound in a playoff game in 2015.
One of the ways the Mariners can start making converts of the mathematical apostates is by beating up more on bad teams. The Texas Rangers are almost certainly a bad team. Yesterday the team finally got a quality start from one of their young rotation members with a lineup born of a Mike Hargrove fever dream. Tonight the team is running out a well optimized lineup and one of their most effective starters.
Felix is pitching tomorrow you guys. A win tonight puts them two games ahead of last year's team at this time. Ross Detwiler is bad.
Goms.
