Felix Hernandez and Nelson Cruz paved the way to a 2-0 victory in game one of this series. If you haven't had the chance to read it yet, Nathan Bishop's sterling capper features a talented writer tackling his favorite subject. It's worth your time.
Today, Ol' Dadgut himself will try to rebound from last Sunday's eight out, seven run shellacking at the hands of the Rangers. James Paxton's line was worse than the performance -- Texas caught a few breaks in the third before they really started barreling the ball -- and despite some mild mechanical issues that were blown out of proportion, he should be able to get back on track tonight.
For the Twins, righty Trevor May gets the call. Like most players to appear on a top 100 prospect list at some point, May's name carries an illusory sheen of potential that doesn't reflect the pitcher he's developed into. On his day, he throws strikes and keeps lefties at bay with an above average changeup. But he was a mess in the big leagues last summer, when his bad command was exposed and he nibbled his way to a 4.30 walk rate. Over at USS Mariner, Marc W. writes that May has largely table his fringy slider this season, and that should help. As a whole though, he's a backend starter with no out pitch, and a great matchup for the Mariners as they try to win their third game in a row.
