Blogging is so not like riding a bike.
My high school English teacher used to say that the worst thing any writer can do is to stop writing. Back then I didn't really know what he meant, but now I totally get it - writing is a muscle, one with five times the standard atrophy rate. So, yeah, needless to say that, after barely even thinking about baseball for the past month, it's going to take a little while for me to get back in the swing of things. Once Zito landed elsewhere I basically did what I could to forget about the Mariners, and while the Reitsma signing didn't pass without catching my eye, it wasn't exactly the sort of earth-shattering acquisition that captures a man's undivided interest. I need to get my brain back into baseball mode, and that doesn't happen at the drop of a hat.
Here's what I will say, though:
January 4, 2006
Signed Carl Everett as a free agent.

January 5, 2007
Signed Chris Reitsma as a free agent.
I don't think this one's going to turn out as poorly as the last time. But I've been wrong before.
Anyway, huge thanks to Steve, Deanna, and Trent for keeping this place alive for the past few weeks with enjoyable content. Coming up with subject material in the dead of the offseason is even harder than it seems, and I'm sincerely thankful for all their help. With that said, I'm glad to be back. If this trip has taught me anything, it's that a lot of people pay a lot of money for airfare and lodging and such in order to attain the kind of happiness and sense of excitement I get just from watching and writing about the Mariners every day. Their way may not cause as much day-to-day frustration, but my way's cheaper, and it carries the perennial potential for an incredible high.
I may not be ready for a new season quite yet, but God damn I will be soon. 70 days. And counting.
