Stimulant Use Associated With Psychosocial Factors, HIV Risk, and Concurrent Hazardous Alcohol Use Among US Adults: Exploratory Cross-Sectional Questionnaire Study

Stimulant Use Associated With Psychosocial Factors, HIV Risk, and Concurrent Hazardous Alcohol Use Among US Adults: Exploratory Cross-Sectional Questionnaire Study

To assess positive and negative affect, the 20-item Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) scale was used. The PANAS scale has been used in a study looking at the association between affect and sexual behavior among MSM individuals [25]. To assess perceived stress, the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was used.

Effectiveness and Feasibility of a Self-guided Mobile App Targeting Emotional Well-being in Healthy Adults: 4-Week Randomized Controlled Trial

Effectiveness and Feasibility of a Self-guided Mobile App Targeting Emotional Well-being in Healthy Adults: 4-Week Randomized Controlled Trial

Subjective well-being captures positive affect and satisfaction with life [3], whereas psychological well-being [4] includes eudemonic aspects, such as purpose, growth, acceptance, and flourishing that align with the self-determination theory [5]. Other terms, such as mental well-being [6] and hedonic well-being, are also used interchangeably with psychological well-being. Although some well-being outcomes are used to capture the presence of mental illness, they are distinct.

Associations Between Affective States and Sexual and Health Status Among Men Who Have Sex With Men in China: Exploratory Study Using Social Media Data

The sentiment includes positive affect (eg, love and honor) and negative affect (eg, hurt and annoyance) [7]. Negative affect and negative emotions are common components of depression, whereas positive affect can facilitate positive health behaviors across the population [8,9]. Therefore, affective states are important components of mental health status to indicate or predict health-related behaviors.

The Effects of the Processing of Positive Memories Technique on Posttrauma Affect and Cognitions Among Survivors of Trauma: Protocol for a Daily Diary Study

The Effects of the Processing of Positive Memories Technique on Posttrauma Affect and Cognitions Among Survivors of Trauma: Protocol for a Daily Diary Study

In the first study, authors found that participants who repeatedly narrated the content of positive autobiographical memories reported decreases in PTSD symptom severity and negative affect, as well as increases in positive affect across time compared to the control condition [38]. In the second study, authors found that survivors of trauma who repeatedly retrieved positive (and neutral) memories reported less PTSD and depression severity, fewer posttrauma cognitions, and improved affect [39].

Real-time Assessment of the Bidirectional Relationship Between Affective States and Glucose: Protocol for a 14-Day Observational Study

Real-time Assessment of the Bidirectional Relationship Between Affective States and Glucose: Protocol for a 14-Day Observational Study

One example of an individual factor that influences eating behavior is affect [18-21]. The relationship between eating behavior and affect appears to be bidirectional as fatigue, stress, and negative mood are associated with increased cravings and food consumption [19-22], while variations in glucose in response to eating may relate to affective and physical feeling states [23-26].

Dynamic Regulatory Processes in the Transition From Suicidal Ideation to Action in Adults Leaving Inpatient Psychiatric Care: Protocol for an Intensive Longitudinal Study

Dynamic Regulatory Processes in the Transition From Suicidal Ideation to Action in Adults Leaving Inpatient Psychiatric Care: Protocol for an Intensive Longitudinal Study

Thus, based on the limited literature, we predict that reduced total sleep time (compared with an individual’s mean sleep duration) will affect likelihood of SA in the context of SI through decays in inhibitory control. The goal of this study is to integrate examination of affective, cognitive, and physiological risk factors for short-term changes in suicidal thinking and suicidal behaviors among adults known to be at high risk within an ideation-to-action framework.

Effectiveness of a Mental Health Service Navigation Website (Link) for Young Adults: Randomized Controlled Trial

Effectiveness of a Mental Health Service Navigation Website (Link) for Young Adults: Randomized Controlled Trial

The program logic of Link thus proposes that by improving attitudes, beliefs, and perceived control of help-seeking, and reducing barriers toward help-seeking, positive affect (PA), and intentions to seek help will increase, which in turn will increase actual help-seeking behaviors [24]. We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) of Link with 51 (intervention, n=24; control, n=27) young people aged between 18 and 25 years [25].

The Dosing of Mobile-Based Just-in-Time Adaptive Self-Management Prompts for Caregivers: Preliminary Findings From a Pilot Microrandomized Study

The Dosing of Mobile-Based Just-in-Time Adaptive Self-Management Prompts for Caregivers: Preliminary Findings From a Pilot Microrandomized Study

The Care QOL caregiver strain item bank [35] was used to assess feelings of being overwhelmed or burdened by the caregiver role; the PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System) Anxiety item bank [39,40] was used to provide a measure of the level of anxiety (eg, fear, anxious misery, hyperarousal, and somatic symptoms related to arousal); and the PROMIS Depression item bank [39,40] provided a measure of perceived depression (ie, negative mood, decrease in positive affect, information-processing
