The Broadcom BCM4402 integrates a PCI 10/100 Ethernet MAC+PHY
and V.92/V.90 data/fax/voice softmodem, enabling the industries lowest
cost and highest performance communications solution. By integrating
the two most common communication functions, the BCM4402
dramatically lowers the total cost of Internet connectivity inside the
corporate office, on the road, and in the home.
V.92/V.90 Modem Function
The BCM4402 controller includes a serial interface to an external
modem Codec/DAA, allowing implementation of a complete low-cost
V.92/V.90 data/fax/voice modem. Broadcom’s advanced softmodem
technology is field proven and robust, providing OEMs with a solution
that causes far fewer support calls than competing solutions.
Broadcom’s Universal Softmodem™ architecture takes advantage of
high-volume PC OEM shipments across all supported hardware
platforms including BCM4402. Voice support includes the V.253 AT
command set interface and full-duplex speakerphone. In addition ,V.44
and Modem-on-Hold are implemented.
10/100 Ethernet Function
The BCM4402 10/100 Ethernet function incorporates a complete IEEE
802.3u compliant MAC and PHY. The MAC also supports 802.1p/Q,
802.3x, and management functions including RMON, Ethernet-like MIB
and IEEE 802.3u Ethernet MIB. The 10/100 PHY uses Broadcom’s
advanced Digi-PHY™ architecture for low power and includes advanced
power management. The 10/100 PHY also supports auto-negotiation and
HP Auto-MDIX functions to eliminate installation errors.
Fully qualified and tested system solutions are available that have been
fully homologated for North American and worldwide usage.
