So... Northwestern's really bad this year. The last two times we won three or less, our coach wasn't back the following season (the last time before that was pre-'95, a.k.a. before football existed), and at this point we're all struggling to see four wins on the 2014 schedule. The "UGH" is no less palpable in the CFB Pick'em Challenge, where iJim epitomized the absurdity and awfulness of our start to the year by gaining ground in Week 2 despite not submitting picks. Letting the carnage fall around him as the rest of the B1G laid eggs around the college football landscape turned out to improve his tiebreaker position because MY GOD LETS ALL JUST GIVE UP NOW. An off week for NU is incredibly welcome, basically, and may God have mercy on our souls.
But to the extent you're all gluttons for punishment and still so ravenously searching for NU content as to be continuing to read the fanposts on here as well as the actual content, as depressing as it may be, we're back for Week 3 of this challenge and I feel really good that we can jump back above .500 as a group, guys. I mean, we're smart and stuff. Have you seen our fancy degrees?
Yeah...
Anyhow, the ledger to date:
STANDINGS THROUGH WEEK 2
HappyNUyear 1-4, 1-0 NU (10 points)
Illegal Use of Hands 6-5, 0-2 NU (5 points)
Kevin Trahan 5-6, 0-2 NU (4 points)
NU'06er 6-3, 0-2 NU (3 points)
iJim 3-3, 0-1 NU (3 points)
PUREWildcat 5-6, 0-2 NU (3 points)
Glopknar 4-7, 0-2 NU (3 points)
MountainTiger 4-7, 0-2 NU (3 points)
MNWildcat 2-9, 0-2 NU (2 points)
LakeView 0-5, 0-1 NU (0 points)
How can a 6-3 record be worse than a 1-4 record, you might ask? A brief refresher on the rules: Every NU game is worth 10 points, every other game is worth 1, and, crucially your lowest scoring week is omitted from the official points standings (though still there in your win-loss record as a tiebreaker).
See, now you'll ace it all, knowing the rules and such! On to the Week 3 games, which are underwhelming, but hey, maybe we can use a few off-radar shots in the dark at this point to get us to 4+ points a week; best of luck...!
