One of the best films I've seen in years. Like Happiness - only better. I highly recommend it.
After the least romantic encounter imaginable, the 13-year old Aviva becomes pregnant. Ensues hilariously shady emotional blackmail from her "loving" mother to get her to have an abortion. The twisted yet touching desire for the girl to keep the baby is but one of the really interesting contrasts explored by this movie. Following the abortion, the insecure teenager proceeds to boldly run away from home and shows the eerie ability to adapt to the most contradicting situations within hours of each other.
Unpredictable plot and very dark humor where each character is hilariously flawed. The story features an underground pro-life organization, the incredibly naive Christian mother of a dozen crippled children, and Aviva's "progressive" and incredibly hypocritical middle-class parents. One of the funniest characters was in my opinion was the born-again Christian ex-convict whom Aviva meets and falls in love with during one of his truck driving trips, giving rise to the most hilarious and bizarre scenes of the two as a couple.
Once again, Solonz shows the bright side of life.
Not recommended if easily shocked.
