In my honest opinion, this movie took away what made Mulan's story so powerful and impressive in the first place; for some reason, they chose to make a Mulan a magical and immensily strong creature instead of the normal girl she was in the original. Instead of being someone who did all this only to to save her father, despite thinking it would be her death, and someone who had to fight and struggle so hard for so long to keep up with the other warriors, they changed her into a "chosen one" who never really had to fear or sacrifice or work, cus she always knew she was strong enough to win anyways.
Also, WHERE THE HELL WAS SHANG!!!??

EVERETT AND JULIE HAD MY BLOOD BOILING!!!! He was flirting with his girlfriend's sister from the SECOND he met her, and she was fully entertaining it even though the whole reason she was even supposed to be there was to SUPPORT her sister who was deeply struggling! God, these people were the absolute worst!! My hatred of them really ruined my vibes during this movie much more than I would have liked...
It wasn't just them, though; that whole entire family was so mean and rude and judgemental for no reason. Meredith deserves a million times better than every single one of them, and that's a straight-up FACT! I really just wanted to give her a big hug, cus she truly deserved to get some love and respect.
Other than that, however, I did like the concept of this movie and it was a fun watch. The awkwardness was high, but not in a bad way. Somehow the second-hand embarrassment, and even the hatred towards some of the characters, was... entertaining?

The romance totally steals the show! Kate and Tyler had chemistry for days, and even the second love interest in the triangle, Javi, had a great connection to Kate! The movie truly has great personal and relational development, but I get why people would be somewhat disappointed if they were only expecting an intense disaster movie. I really do get it, but I personally didn't mind, since I actually loved this specific combination of drama, action, tragedy, romance, comedy, and suspense! I just feel like it never overdid any specific one thing, and instead, it was a perfect blend of everything, creating a very enjoyable watch-experience overall!
