Ride Like a Girl (2019)
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie
Had the choice between this and another movie tonight, so glad we went for this one. Based on the true story of Michelle Payne, surprisingly directed by Rachael Griffiths, this is a good movie and worth the time to watch.
Saw some other reviews to make comment on, one has a low score stating she has won a race no has heard of..... there is no one one in Australia that hasn't heard of the Melbourne Cup, Internationally anyone in the racing world definitely knows of it-- it is a longer race with a bigger prize pool than the Kentucky Derby.
Another review states that she was suspended for "taking drugs", yes it was wrong but lets be clear, it was an appetite suppressant, not illegal outside sport.
Years and Years (2019)
Brilliant
This series has stayed with me, not often I watch a series twice but this one I did.
This series makes you consider the world we are creating and it really is all our fault. We did this, every one of us.
This may be fantasy but it really makes you aware of the world around us and where we could end up.
Restoration Australia (2015)
I will watch a new season
Watching what people do to restore these historical properties is great and the presenter is quite likeable. I just do not understand why they have a presenter who cannot pronounce the title of the show, or why they can't make the title something he can pronounce- which would be my choice, as I said he is quite likeable, sometimes it feels like they purposely add extra R's to his scripting just to amuse themselves.
Below Deck (2013)
Watched one season, just had to watch the rest
Others have described this as a guilty pleasure. I have to agree with that. This is an interesting snapshot into human behaviour, it is not like most reality shows in the way that it is more of a snapshot of the lives of people rather than people put into an environment.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
It is more like a long movie.
This show kept me captivated, compelled to watch the whole series. I enjoyed it but it is different to most series, no big cliffhangers, just great visuals and characters you could feel. Certainly worth a watch, but I wouldn't watch it twice.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Not the worst movie but.......
I did laugh once, right near the end a quick "ha!" and that was it. The attempts at humour throughout really only highlighted the absurdity of war and unfounded hatred, the inanity of propaganda. I felt the subject matter was just too ugly to make into a comedy. It was not the worst movie I have ever seen but it was the emotional ride a movie should be. I am glad I watched it because I had heard so much about it but I would not encourage another person to bother with it.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Read reviews with spoilers because nothing could ruin this movie (more).
Believe the bad reviews. Read reviews with spoilers because nothing could ruin this movie (more).
This is a post apocalyptic movie where there is a mysterious global catastrophe and a scientist stays behind to stop astronauts returning (as per the synopsis). Now you might be wondering how do you stay behind in a global catastrophe? Answer- don't get on the helicopters everyone else left in.
Think about that if you need to, Global catastrophe, planet unsafe for life and everyone left in helicopters except the guy that hung around to do what a recording could have. Then if you think that makes sense then maybe you should watch the movie, there's heaps of other things to overlook like this one.
See You Yesterday (2019)
Time travel, Great Scott!
This movie is a time filler, it's not one of the greats, but not that bad either and in an overall way, yes a bit predictable.
However, I did love the cameo.
The ending is frustrating, leaves you wondering but not in the good philosophical way.
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
The silliest movie I have ever loved watching!
I found this movie to be both weird and funny but totally enjoyable. I had fun picking out things throughout the movie, references to every Rom-com ever made. Often I won't watch a movie a second time, though this one I would, it is full of Easter Eggs.
The cast is excellent, the writing is funny, the energy is fun.
I wouldn't pay cinema prices to watch it, but then again I won't pay cinema prices to watch a rom-com, my attitude to them pretty much matches the main characters in this movie (it's the "rom" part that bores me).
My daughter selected this movie knowing I like Adam Devine, Rebel Wilson and basically any Hemsworth (yes I am an Aussie). Expected to be playing with my phone the whole time but instead I found myself watching and laughing.
How It Ends (2018)
This is the ending.....
This is quite simply a movie about the last few days of America, maybe the world. It is the story of one man trying to reunite with his fiance and the challenges he faces as he crosses the country to do so.
I don't understand why the other reviews go on and on about the movie not having an ending. The whole movie is about the ending, as the world crumbles there is no chance of outrunning it and there is no where for the characters to go. This is...... how it ends.
There is a decent explanation theory given at the end about what caused it but part of the point in the movie is that no one knows exactly what happened. Th movie is about how the average Joe dealt with it happening and the average Joe is not going to know the true exact cause when communications are gone.
Now for the negatives- the characters of this movie have apparently never watched apocalyptic movies as they make a number of dopey decisions that the father in laws years as a marine should have taught him better. Also, I am not in the U.S. but even I know they would have not taken that long to drive across the country when they were sleeping in shifts to keep driving the whole time, even considering on all their stops and taking back routes that did not add up.
Extinction (2018)
Worth watching
For a 'made for TV' sci-fi movie this one is really worth watching. It has a good story line, the acting is good and the effects are well done.
Saw another review mentioning the kids screaming at inopportune moments, have to agree that is a bit annoying but one time the kid did it my husband and I were into the movie enough that we both yelled "shut up" at the TV, so the story was good enough that we cared about the characters.
Good at home entertainment.
IO (2019)
Not the worst I've seen but....disappointing
The trailer had me interested although not far into it I thought this would be one of those thought provoking movies. It wasn't. It was like watching the down time segments of a reality program, just people wandering around waiting for the wind to change- literally. There was no real beginning and the ending could have been delivered much better, the ending could have been the beginning to an interesting story. Though, it kept me watching till the end because I wanted to see where they finished up and even that was delivered more in symbolism-therefore not clear whether the ending was the actual ending or just a fantasy dream sequence.
