Nutcrackers (2024)
Coudve been better I guess?
I agree with this being a missed opportunity. This is Ben Stiller right? The dude from meet the parents??
I was hoping more for a home alone meets cheaper by the dozen laugh out loud holiday Christmas movie.
Instead we got captain fantastic meets the family stone, this serious (all be it cutesy & heartwarming) movie....which theres nothing wrong with any of that, but it just didnt fit the vibe and misses it marks!
The kids are great, great debut for all four (real) brothers. The oldest one has a charm about him and i hope he continues his acting journey, theres potential there!
But with a storyline with 4 rambunctious boys you would think the story would write itself, its not bad, but not good either. I found it a bit dull and was on my phone alot.
Its cute, but you can skip this one!
Time Cut (2024)
Watch Totally Killer instead...
Im hoping other reviewers mentioned the same thing.
Because this was the biggest rip off if ive ever seen one. Also why was this serious and dramatic? If youre gonna come up with a ridiculous plot and storyline can we atleast make it fun??
This had zero fun. The best part about time machine plots is seeing past and future selves of everyone and we got about zero of that here...Also the slasher was absolutely predictable. I thought to myself i hope i have this wrong. Cause it would be too obvious if it was indeed the person i was thinking. Lo and behold...it was. -_-
I do however want to take a moment and give a huge shout out to the person who handled the 00s jamz. As a millennial that was probably my favourite thing about this entire movie. Every song that was chosen was an absolute banger!
What should have been a short 90mins movie became the longest one ive ever seen. Time i will never get back. (Unfortunately i dont have that Time Machine to go back to when i didnt watch this)
Verdict? Skip this one and watch Totally Killer on Prime. Guaranteed laughs and fun!
Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter (2024)
Her name was Audria not Alexis.
This is an almost perfect documentary, the pacing is great. There are only 2 parts. (More than 3 is completely unnecessary imo) interesting to see Charlize Theron as one of the producers.
As much as i enjoyed every reveal, twist and turns. I did have one issue. It irked me that Cathy kept calling Aundria, Alexis? I really feel for Cathy and it was heartbreaking, heartwarming and bittersweet to see her put in this kind of effort into finding the child she never got to see/meet again.
Buuuut can we get one thing straight....that is no longer her name!! When she gave up her child for adoption. You have given up your right to being a parent. Theres something very gross and icky about calling her Alexis when all her friends and family she grew up with knew her as Aundria? Seems disrespectful.
And this brings me to another issue... have we started normalizing OPEN adoptions?? I know this is a law in Canada. Im not sure about the laws in the US. But im hoping moving forward all adoptions are open, especially when the person pregnant is under 18 yrs. Children cant make a decision this big. Cathy was already on the fence about giving Aundria up. And i can only imagine being a child, knowing they were adopted, and eventually wanting to search for your birth/biological parents.
This harrowing story ended chilled me to the BONE! Within the first half an hour you already get to be in on the "twist" and things just escalate from there! I for some reason expected this to be unsolved by the way they were going about this investigation. But im happy to say the end is quite satisfying.
( Ok... except for that one little thing about the ashes!)
I wont say much more, but i wouldnt miss this one!
Civil War (2024)
I also want to know
Like many reviewers, what each political side and the origins of what started this civil war in America. But alas...that wasnt the point of the movie was it?
The point was maybe that this was a good future representation of whats maybe to come ....should a certain president get elected perhaps???? 🙃
I enjoyed every performance, especially that of Jesse Plemons. Maybe Plemons can one day be in a romantic comedy? I think that would do him some good. Truthfully as soon as he appeared on screen i just knew we were gonna be dealing with a psychopath.....
Caily Spaeny did a great job in absolutely INFURIATING me which i suppose was the point? She got the shot while being solely responsible for ever character death.
Beautifully shot movie, but maybe a little shallow with not much depth. But incredibly interesting concept!
Inside Man: Most Wanted (2019)
100 mins ill never get back....
Did they really make a b-movie sequel to a DENZEL movie?!
Just watched this because it was on Netflix and i was bored, i didnt realize this was a « sequel » until they showed a picture of Clive Owen, nor that this was a movie.
This was shot like a tv show, even the look of it reminded me of cops/crime shows on network television! Just so cheap looking.
And dont get me started on the acting. That was probably the most atrocious part. I was thrilled to see Kim Wexler, but than her little Titanic montage with the gate and water with Remy gave me major face palm! Why are you just standing there?! Turn the key yourself!
Snack Shack (2024)
Surprisingly not so surpringly great!
Classic coming of age, summer movie! Im giving this a 10 to boost the ratings, cause it deserves a little push.
Had me smiling ear to ear, love a good boy on boy friendship, setting this movie in the 90s fit the vibe and you can just get away with saying lots of offensive words without anyone getting their panties in bunches.
The guys had great chemistry, the girl was very cute, although not sure what she was playing at, she knew exactly what she was doing though, so props to her.
Nick Robinson's part felt like a little cameo, loved him in kings of summer, had the same vibes. Although the tragic part felt a bit cliched... all in all, really enjoyed this one!
Safe (2018)
Rachel (aka Jenny) you idiot!
First i wanna say im a little late to this series, this is only the second harlen coben show ive watched, the first one being Shelter on PRIME. Which sadly wont be renewed but atleast gave us an ending! (would reccomend) its centralized more around the teens however, not very much the adults.
With that said, i really enjoyed Safe, im realizing Harlen Coben has a "trademark style".
I thought i knew who literally "dunn it" and thought it would be predictable, but fortunately didnt get this one right! Not something that happens to me often!
With that said, absolutely HATED the daughter, like ya dude your dad spying on your phone software, is MESSED UP, but have a showdown with the man and confront him? Thats one.
Two, did she really, seriously discover the truth and that questionsing each member of the "fire incident" was gonna go well? Even one of the characters asked what she thought was gonna happen!! Are you dumb???
Also, GO THE EFF HOME YOU LOSER! No matter how upset i was at my parents, never would i want my face to be on a milk carton!? Did she think her dad who put spyware on her phone wasnt going to report her missing from day one!?
The ending sorta reminded me of a movie i watched not long ago called "Searching" with John Cho and one of my prediction was that maybe it would end the same way, turns out....i didnt guess the proper prediction.
Brats (2024)
Boo frickin hoo bud.... -_-
First, dont watch this. A waste of time and its honestly just aggravating ...im not sure how this got green lit??? I would NOT call this a doc. Its mostly just one on one interviews that centers around how Andrew M. Is majorly triggered. (Maybe some therapy would've have been more beneficial for him?)
Im a millennial in my 30s. So these are considered "old" movies to me, however ive always loved watching them when i was growing up and ild enuff to have heard about the "BRAT pack" to see it be portrayed so negatively actually came to a surprise for me? I always viewed it as being able to belong and be part of a cool group of young talented kids. Who wouldn't want that? Are we really focusing on the word BRAT??? Is it that deep?? The dude put you on the map and made this core group of "kids" iconic.
To see Andrew Mccarthy play the victim over this coined term, is beyond ridiculous to me...! I dont relate to him in any way, shape or form, and i most of all dont feel any sympathy for anyone who felt this negatively impacted their career trajectory. Give me a break.
The truth is, this article just made them more famous??? As for Andrew? If were being real...he was never gonna have the career that Demi or Rob Lowe did...although im sure he could have just done a very successful tv show instead he wanted more cause he felt he deserved more. He wanted prestige and accolades. But whats wrong with just being on a sitcom? A working actor?
This is the problem with Hollywood. They dont see their self-serving narcissistic ways...who said that without the article they would have been cast in a steven spielberg or martin Scorsese movie? Emilio estevez seemed to have given up on hollywood. Maybe the answer is simple. You peaked.
Theres so much more i could say but i feel that alot of the reviews here sum up exactly how boring abd out of touch this doc is.
Baby Reindeer (2024)
Funny, scary and devastating!
Reading some of the reviews on here and im seeing that this is a show you either love or hate and its either you get it or you dont. Its a shame you cant reply to someones review, but maybe a good thing, cause i would be here all day defending how GOOD this show was. Truly one of the BEST series Netflix has picked up this year.
I find it incredibly hard to believe this was based on a true story, but after looking up a few yt videos and interviews of richard gadd promoting his show, im even more in awe of him and his harrowing accounts but can clearly tell this was dramatized and for television!
This is what makes the show so watchable because of his stupid ass misttakes! You feel so frustrated, why does he do this to himself? Why cant he just go to the police? Why does he KEEP going back??? Well...all of it is explained in that heart wrenching "comedy" speech.
You finally get to know him on a deeper level and start to understand his self loathing, his obsession to be liked, to be famous, to be loved, to be someone and most of all to be funny! (Which he absolutely is) should i have laughed at some of the scenes? Probably not...but i did anyway!
It was hard to watch, made me uncomfortable at times that i needed to look away. The second hand embarrassment could be overwhelming...basically these were rollercoaster emotions i was going through!
The last thing...to the actress who plays Martha....
*standing ovation*
Oooohh booy, she better gear up and find herself a stylist for all the award shows she will be attending!
What Jennifer Did (2024)
This was terrible
Being a Canadian ive known about this story for a long time and was excited to see a Netflix doc about it. But honestly what a waste of time this was.
Very much from the detective/cops side and little to no info about Jennifers everyday life. Just things we already knew. Dont get me started on the cinematography, felt cheap, like I was watching something on auto motion plus setting, amateur filmmaking.
The cops clearly disliked Jennifer from the start so already i knew it was going to be biased.
As for the crime itself.... Here are my thoughts... as a 1st generation canadian/millennial whose parents are also immigrants, i could actually related to Jennifer in the sense that I also grew up lying about school and grades because of the pressure my parents put on me and this lie that you have to keep up with takes a toll on you. However never would this make me want to think about murder but i felt like the cops made their entire investigation based on the fact that because she lied about school it MUST mean she is lying about the murders, clearly she is a SICK person but its seemed we didnt delve deep into her and her personality. Because at the end of the day they only broke this case because of her dad.
The whole thing was very much sensationalized for my liking and the truth about Jennifer is that on top of being sick and evil...turns out she is DUMB as rocks. (Seriously if you were gonna have your parents killed maybe dont leave any witnesses??)
The entire thing was so dumb and stupid that i cant believe this dumb*** hasnt watched ONE cop show to cover her tracks. I mean she even kept the phone with literally every txt messages between her and the culprits (who they didnt even reveal??). Her 911 call was embarrassing, worthy of a razzie award maybe.
She also left the door unlocked for the "intruders"... she made a phone call while her hands were tied...im just facepalming SO hard and im so mad at her stupidity that it feels great knowing she was caught in less than 5 days. Smh.
But anyways thats beside the point. I wouldnt waste time on this. Period.
To Jennifer, maybe watch some Law and Order or CSI miami??
Julie and the Phantoms (2020)
SO FUN!!
The fact that this show has such a high rating on IMDB, and they couldn't give us a 2nd season is truly the disappointment of the decade. However im not surprised, Netflix unfortunately does this every week, they release a new show almost every other day and cant keep up.
Theres just too much content. Its best to not get attached to ANYTHING.
Julie and the phantoms was #1 for a week or so AND still we couldnt get another season especially with the they left us with.
Ive now watched this show about 3-4 times. Its THAT good, i should also mention im over 30 but this show is fun, its cute teen drama and the music is even better than when i used to watch high school musical. Which i cant believe came out when i was 17-18...
The soundtrack is truly killer, its amazing car ride music! The cast is so talented especially our main character Julie. Her chemistry with Luke is off the charts good and simply adorable!
My favourite episode has to be unsaid Emily whoo booy did i cry or what! Emotional, fun and bangers.
The Boys in the Boat (2023)
Gimme a light next time
Yeah I mean...it was okay? I watched it for the eye candy really. After seeing Callum Turner in Masters of the Air i was excited to know he was also in this one. The blond hair suits him and the other boys in the boat were equally ravishing. It was very much a "boy" movie as someone wrote here.
Never been a fan of the rowing sport, i think the last and only time i saw rowing in a movie was that movie with Paul Walker and Joshua Jackson (The Skulls) remember that one?
The story obviously has a very "USA! USA!" Feel to it.
Last but not least, remember that episode of game of thrones where you couldn't see anything??? Well i also got a lot of that....some better lighting would have been nice (its not my tv) im not sure why directors love putting such low light during a scene but at times it was impossible to see what was happening!
Poor Things (2023)
Yeah okay....
Listen, if youre going to watch this, make sure you know this is gonna be more of an art house type movie. Yes its pretentious. Yes its trying a little hard to be funny yes its about ones female ...sexual awakening and discovery?? Yes its about a womans journey in finding herself and making her place in the world and finally yes the acting is absolutely phenomenal! And yes Im here for it all!
I think Emma Stone deserves every bit of the hype she is getting, if you see any whining in the reviews, dont worry its the same men who also whined about Barbie.
Did this movie need to be 2 and half hours long?? GOD no! (Can we normalize movies that are 90mins?) Was this better than The Favourite? Absolutely not... but i watched it for Emma Stone who delivered and ill watch her in anything!
Hard to believe im watching an actress whom i first saw in a teen movie about losings ones virginity and getting alcohol.
Watcher (2022)
My blood is boiling.....
This movie is a slow burn and theres only real action in the last 10 minutes or so, however its only a 90 minute movie, which are my favourite type of movies, anything longer is always aggravating.
I gave this a passable rating simply because it was entertaining and i always enjoy a thriller/horror movie. However the reason i cant rate it any higher is simply because of the few tropes that get on my nerves!
Aggravating trope #1 : When the man/boyfriend/husband doesnt believe the protagonist, i would like to , FOR ONCE, just watch a movie where we dont have the idiot husband/bf be a dumba** gaslighting pos! Absolutely frustrating!
The finale hopefully teaches USELESS husband a lesson and if she survives, maybe she can leave his sorry excuse of a human being for someone who will believe her when she tells them shes being stalked (after knowing theres a SERIAL KILLER ON THE LOOSE IN THE SAME NEIGHBOURHOOD WHERE THEY LIVE!) cmon dude! Turns out, math and logic is an important skill to have in life!
Annoying trope #2 : The non translating of romanian was ABSOLUTELY frustrating, and look im not an idiot...i get that this was done on purpose for the viewers to also feel isolated like the main protagonist, but all it actually achieve was to distracted me further and wanting to find out what everyone was talking about...also, them having a full on conversation without clueing her in is so unrealistically rude, that it made me want to flip a table over....
All in all, this movie aggravated the hello outta me. But they managed to keep me hooked until the end.
60 Minuten (2024)
At this point...just do the fight non?
This movie was ridiculous. But i of course watched it for the eye candy that is Emilio Sakraya. Be warned however that the plot of this movie is completely absurd!
The movie centers around a young man who has 60 minutes to get to his daughter's birthday party or he loses custody of her. The problem is ...he also has a fight event.
Due to his dilemma he bails on his match and it almost seems counter productive for him not to go through with it??? When he actually could have just done and gotten his actual match over with and plenty of time to spare to take a relaxing uber ride to his daughter's birthday??? Also what kinda asshole tells her kid's father that he is gonna lose custody of his only child that he clearly loves and who loves him back within an hour? Ok fine.
But alas...there would be no movie if things actually made sense. Youre gonna have to suspend your disbelief while watching this.
Anyways, he ends up destroying everyone and everything in his path in a quick and efficient way (once again proving if he hadnt bailed on the fight he couldve had his opponent on the ground within minutes with plenty of time to spare and take a shower, change clothes, do a photo op, save his gym and not lose custody of his daughter.) But okay.
The point of this movie is really and clearly the martial arts, the fights scenes were great and entertaining honestly...so for that im giving it a passable rating, clearly the lead character put in a lot of work into it and it shows!
Mulan (2020)
Mulans reflection
Am i upset about Mushu not being here? YES and no. A disney princess MUST always have a cute animal/fantastical creature by its side. Those are simply the rules!
However her having a mythical phoenix guiding the way seems way more realistic! Also...IS THAT JET LI?! Him being the emperor just absolutely makes sense.
The actress they chose to play Mulan is beyond perfect. My slight beef are these ridiculous reviews and the fact that this movie is at 5.5! To bring up the logic and science of physical strength?!
Please! Just say that you didn't understand nor pay attention to this movie!
This isnt about the physics of why she's stronger than men twice her size, this is literally about her chi and what's inside of her. She is loyal, true and brave. Her heart is pure and her virtues reflect the power inside of her. Physics have nothing to do with it! Also its a disney movie about Princess Mulan! If were gonna go by this logic than lets all sh** over crouching tiger hidden dragon. I dont see reviews about physics and strength nor logic. *eye roll*
Dont pay attention to those reviews.
All in all i loved this live action movie!
Sound of Freedom (2023)
Really hard to watch!
I heard a bit of hype around this movie so I decided to watch it, since it was available on amazon prime for me.
Warning.... This is NOT for the faint of heart. I found it really tough to watch, gut wrenching to be honest. It almost feels wrong to watch? Theres nothing graphic that is shown but just the imagery/symbolism of it, is quite disturbing.
But to know this is based on a true story and that there are people like Tim Ballard out there, makes me feel very hopeful. I cant imagine having a job like this that would slowly chip away at your soul.
For an indie movie, you can tell the budget wasnt grandiose, it feels very low budget... but i thought they still managed to make it look great, getting Jim Caviezel to play the lead was also a great casting choice. He is a great actor and i wont forget that he is in one of my favourite movies of all time (The count of monte cristo) furthermore i loved that they gave us a a character to root for. All in all despite the heart wrenching topic and circumstances....it has a very "happy ending".
The Killer (2023)
I. Dont. Give. A.
Eff about this movie.
Holy crap, was this movie boring.
What was NETFLIX thinking?
If you need something to help you snooze or take a nap, dont miss this one! Here i thought we were having a david fincher comeback, im not sure HOW in the world he got Fassy to come back from his acting resurection FOR THIS?!
Its slightly unbelievable to me....there was barely any action, Fassy's character was completely unlikely and portrayed this "i have no humanity or empathy", if thats the case its not realistic for him to have a girlfriend or lover. They also managed to convice Tilda Swinton to come and do an appearance.
My advice, just go watch John Wick, itll make you feel 10 times better.
I Spit on Your Grave (2010)
None for gretchen wieners!
This movie is such a cult classic. I have never seen the original one "Day of the Woman" nor have i see the following sequels to this movie.
Im not a fan of movies that have gratuitous rape scenes or anything too bloody and gory. However this movie didnt feel like that. I do wish there were a few things added, wouldve love to see how she got out of the lake so stealthy and how she survived for a month before exacting/planning her revenge and i would have also love for the sheriffs wife to know her husband was a rapist pos and also whats the victims life like outside of mockingbird trail?
Other than that ...this revenge in this movie is deeply satisfying. The truth is, there are lots of articles even documentaries about SA victims not being able to go to the police due to being accused of false reporting because of the "lack of evidence" and because of course as women...we are always "asking for it" arent we? So this is almost a dream scenario of bloody good revenge! The one on the sheriff was also probably the most satisfying. The man did say he was an assman!
If you wanna watch a quick 90mins movie about comeuppance then this is the one for you. However lots of trigger warnings here!
Ps. IS THAT DAMIAN LEIGH FROM MEAN GIRLS??!
Rumor Has It... (2005)
Why the bad reviews?
Im really surprised at the low rating? I watched this rom com when this first came out. (So basically 20 yrs ago??) and i remember loving it!
No one really knew mark ruffalo, kevin costner was a heart throb. (Still is if youre watching yellowstone) and J Aniston was a BIG effing deal. So all around great casting. (Hello shirley maclaine????)
I thought it was fun! Sure theres cheating and twisted romance, but thats the fun of it. Its not meant to be perfect, its a movie people!!! And its a ridiculous plotline ....but it works! A good fanfiction that became a movie. Its not meant to be taken seriously. But it was good for its time.
People are clearly watching this for the first time because of all the streaming where its available, the question begs to ask....is a rom com like this work the present time? Judging by the ratings...?
Black Mirror: Loch Henry (2023)
Are you kidding??
This was probably one of the BEST episodes I've seen. So beautifully shot, well made, the acting, the dialogue, the suspense as well!
Just everything was impressive.
Im not sure why im reading reviews about how this wasn't technology based?? If you dont think this story is tech based then im pretty sure you missed the entire point of the episode?
As a society, we've become so completely obsessed and desensitized towards true crime docs. The gruesome details of a premeditated murder isnt shocking anymore. There are even thousands of memes on the internet that make fun of girlfriends (generally women) for being especially into true crime docs, were all just so captivated by serial killers and psychopaths we dont realize how messed up it all is.
I think this plays a huge part in the art of filmmaking (using technology to get ahead and win awards hello!) being obsessed with watching crime shows/docs (tech based)
Its been a couple of days and im still thinking about this episode! One more thing... the sheer anger i felt with the girlfriend towards the end?? Boy did they make that scene incredibly frustrating.
Moral of the episode??? This absolutely influenced me into wanting to visit this fictional town of Loch Henry/Scotland.
Beautiful Disaster (2023)
I was entertained
Now i havent read this book in maybe over 10 years. (This book came out more than 11-12 years ago i think) i dont mind that it doesnt follow the book word for word, thats just how it goes. But it did feel like a try hard of a movie, they tried to make it light and funny and chaotic ....but it came off a bit cringe and unserious...and chaotic in a bad way.
I LOVE Dylan Sprouse, he is very handsome. But he was absolutely not the right build to play Travis Maddox. Dylan is pretty in the face, but the whole thing/point about Travis is that he is a beast of a man but also a completely sensitive/deep soul (due to the loss of his mother who died of cancer which makes him who he is.) The acting also wasnt top notch but to be honest my expectations werent high so i dont really care about that and for some reason Abby was portrayed almost as a pick me girl. Which again...in the book theres a very slow build to her secrets and trauma.
Also the sex? Why was it so chaotic???? I don't remember that ....i remember their scenes being super steamy. The ending was SUPER abrupt. Im not sure what that means...? (Sequel?) Overall i didnt hate this! Just wish they could have made it more deep with the right looking actors. (I pictured Matthew Noszka after seeing him in Perfect Addiction)
Alice, Darling (2022)
Alice, Boring.
So dare I say this was a bit boring?? I agree with alotta the reviews on here, this fell flat.
I think i expected more action but it just feels like...anticlimactic? The boyfriend dude verbally and mentally abuses Alice....by doing what? Well were not very sure? They of course showed tiny glimpses of gaslighting and such but it was so not enough to really gage the emotional trauma and anxiety Alice has/feels from being with him. Theres also almost no dialogue either so we dont really get to know anyone.
PS. In no way do I want to minimize abuse of any kind (whether physical or non physical) but ..there was so more potential here that wasnt explored in truly showing the audience what an emotional abusive relationship can be.
Also the whole missing girl thing? What is the correlation with that and Alice? What did that add to the story, would love if someone could explain that to me.
Im gonna need something more here and unfortunately we dont get it here. Maybe the beauty or the moral of the story was in its simplicity???? No matter what the creators were trying to do the bottom line i was BORED outta my mind watching this waiting for something crazy to happen.
XO, Kitty (2023)
Entertaining but cheesy
So very cheesy! And absolutely TOO MANY love triangles/interests.
I love cheesy rom-com teen shows. Im a millennial and recognize it isn't healthy...but sign me up for teen drama! This show is NOT terrible. But its also not "never have i ever" which is also written by the genius that is mindy kaling. So it might be incomparable as far as quality goes...
I think Kittys bubbly-ness is endearing where as some might find over the top but i think it works. What doesnt work is the amount of love triangles going on..she moves for Dae, min ho loves her ?? And now kitty loves yuri?? No...this doesnt work its too contradicting and forces the audience to lose interest in the main love interest.... Its too complicated and you no longer have someone to root for. Ps i think min ho and kitty works! (Classic enemies to lovers trope).
Also the acting?? Not so great....be warned! Cringe and bit wooden. But if you want something easy and fast to watch and enjoy cheesy teen romance?? Then go for it!
The Immaculate Room (2022)
Frustrating....
This movie was sooo...frustrating...i was hoping for more twist and turns. But these characters were the worse people to do this experiment.
This movie is definitely a way to get you to think about how you would survive in a room of complete and utter boredom with your SO.
Mikey apparently comes from a rich background and kate doesnt...so why would he do this if he has money in the first place? Clearly he hasnt been cut off. As for kate shes completely unhinged and once again this experiment wasnt for her. A relationship that was doomed from the beginning. These losers both had 16 days to go...and you just wasted 30+ days of torture. Feels so anti climactic.... She accused her bf of cheating...but like when would he have done that?!?!
Anyways he left ...she made it and got 1 millions dollars and donated the entire funds. The end.
