Civil War (2024)
Absolutely Unfulfilling
Prepare yourself for an incredibly boring 2-hour mockumentary. You'll be incredibly annoyed at how the wannabe kid journalist muscles her way into a caravan hellbent on going to Washington to cash in on snapping a picture of the president getting killed. The girl sticks around and every time you think she's going to get killed due to her own stupidity, you're disappointed because each time, another much more likeable character dies instead. She is responsible for almost every death in the movie purely because of her ignorance and lack of common sense.
The time you don't spend bored out of your skull will be spent annoyed and angry instead. Skip this one. It's absolute garbage.
Hypnotic (2023)
Movie Tries WAY Too Hard to be Inception
You can tell that this movie tries desperately to be the next version of 'Inception' and, SPOILER ALERT, it fails miserably. The first few minutes are very creative and good at hooking you into the plot. The farther you go, however, the more chaotic and disorganized the movie gets. The movie ends and you're sitting there wondering, did so-and-so live? Did they die? You'll never know. Every main character probably 'died' at least once.
This movie ends as a choppy, chaotic mess. Leave this Wish version of Inception on the shelf and pick something else. It's a shame because the movie has a lot of famous and well-known actors. Unfortunately, even they can't save this movie from getting in its own way. This is a huge miss.
Untold: Johnny Football (2023)
If You're Not From Cleveland, You Won't Understand
I've lived in Cleveland all my life and remember when and where I was when Johnny was drafted. At the time, he was a colossal pain to a city who put a ton of faith and pressure on the shoulders of a kid. Not everyone is built for that, and he certainly was not. I didn't have sympathy for him at the time, but I certainly do now.
This piece doesn't excuse any of his bad behavior or actions and in fact, society could have done a bit more to make him truly accountable. If you're not from Cleveland, you didn't have the opportunity to watch this kid implode first-hand. I think he's learned a lot and still has a lot to learn. If you've experienced substance abuse or mental illness first-hand, you'll have a soft spot for him in the end and hopefully wish him well in the future; you can't help but feel sad for him.
Superior Donuts (2017)
Rare to get a good wholesome show these days...
It really is rare to get a good wholesome show on TV these days. The pace of the show is very smooth and the content is not raunchy or over the top like you see in a lot of other shows these days. I would go so far as to say that you could probably watch this as a family.
The stereotypes are funny, but they're not offensive. A Jewish donut shop owner, working with a black guy, and a middle eastern business owner next door who all make cracks on each other all around. It's downright funny.
The show itself addresses real life issues like stereotyping, racism, and the decline of small business as it's overshadowed by corporate America. The show conquers these issues in a funny, yet respectable way and the way they bring these issues to light to viewers is well thought out and not offensive.
I really think viewers would be missing out if they didn't at least give the show a chance. My family was hooked from episode 1 and we plan to watch if for as long as it airs.
Bullseye (2015)
Enjoy a boring hour of people not hitting targets.
Honestly, I don't like reality shows, but I haven't seen one as bad as this. I give it less than a season before it gets canned. The first episode, which I couldn't even make it through, consisted of 20 solid minutes of people getting tied to a helicopter and attempting to drop objects on targets 100 feet below. It was a thrilling time of watching people miss the target over and over...and over again. Then I caught a glimpse of them diving into a pool trying to fish out floating targets harnessed to the bottom...and then I gave up. Because at that point they weren't even hitting targets. The show barely lives up to its name, and it seems like they're trying to revive some God-awful remake of "Fear Factor." Don't waste your time.
