Finch (2021)
Oh please!
An unoriginal, please-all exercise, that ultimately will only please a few hardcore fans of the post-apocalyptic, tornado, or Hanks (who is movie really), oh and George Lucas who has made a buck or two with royalties from the Jar Jar Binks character.
Excuse me, retching again--
What on earth are they doing at Apple?! Will you please stop wasting investors cash?! Please? I challenge anyone to find anything original or worth watching here!
Wish they had cut a hour of conversation bore and showed more stuff out there.
Car jacking? Really? Christopher Reeve's done that nearly 50 years ago. Dewey? Ehm, seen E. T.? Wall-E? Come on we're not dumb.
Titane (2021)
wow..! where did this come from?!
I didn't know any of the cast and I'm not sure how this title ended up on my watchlist; it certainly draws from other movies: Tsukamoto's Tetsuo, Noe's Climax, Alien to name a few that spring to mind, but the way the themes are mixed and delivered is so original and masterful that I am completely blown away.
There is no dull moment in this film, even when the pace is slow, the visuals and the acting are always so compelling that you are magnetically drawn into it.
This dark fable will touch all your emotions, from despair, rage, alienation, disgust, to lust, protectiveness, and love; it will even bring you one step closer to experience the whole spectrum of motherhood feelings.
You will not like any of the characters and yet you will sympathize with them as naked human beings, with all their beautiful flaws and primitive instincts.
Ducournau has an ability that reminds me of Antonioni and Bergman in the way that they can convey human experiences in a poetic way without the need for many words at all.
This is clearly not a movie for everyone but for those lucky ones like me, it will feel like an unforgettable experience!
Saint Maud (2019)
Criminal marketing!
The elements of thrill and horror are negligible in this movie.
Does that mean it isn't good? Not quite, rather that the marketing campaign went terribly wrong and people are left feeling being mis-sold. I don't blame them.
All in all a better than average psychological drama that will leave undisturbed the most.
Word of advice for hardcore horror fans: cancel any expectation you might have of getting scared watching this because chances are you won't.
