I really enjoyed watching The Holiday. It had the right amount of Christmas cheese, light hearted comedy, and something to chill out to.
But if like me, you notice every little detail and read into every conversation and situation like your life depends on it, then this is isn't the movie for you.
Jack Black was the wrong fit for this movie. He just doesn't really fit in, and his desperate attempt to appear gentle and loving came off as creepy and deranged.
His obsession with movie scores did my head in all the way through the movie.
The rest of the cast were bearable! Arthur was just adorable, and he was the stitch that kept it together. He was my favourite, I wanted his back story more than anyone else.
To keep things brief, these were my bugbears: Amanda slept with a stranger, and so did Graham in his sisters bed! Iris' overreaction to her non-boyfriend getting engaged. "I hate my horrible life??" Oh come on!! She needed a break from it all-woe is me!! Leave the dog with someone you don't know, it's all good!! Scoff! You never see the poor dog ever again after Amanda changes her mind at the airport.
It just felt like too many ingredients in the pot to mash together in 90mins.
I'll still sit and watch it, but will never get past the annoyances, plot holes, and jack black!!

I am a big fan of the original classics, and the 2011 remake, but this one does not deserve to be counted into the franchise, or use the name 'The Evil Dead'.
The script and the acting left a lot to be desired. It just got boring and there was no leading the audience into any sort of storyline. I don't know where it was going! The amount of cliches and recycled scenarios was too much to bear. The writers compiled a list of what they think they should stack into 90 minutes then used it as a tick list. The plot lost its way a good third of the way through, turning into some weird zombie, half hearted attempt at horror - just a big bloody mess!
The jump scares didn't work, the visual effects (well, we've seen them all already), the one liners were yawn-fest, and there was a zero edge of your seat feeling, and unlike the last remake, there was no yearning for the protagonists to survive! I was done with the lot of them!
Nothing against the actors, but they didn't ever look horrifically terrified, and they always just ended up standing round watching and waiting for something to happen next! I never saw any real fear in their eyes, the acting just wasn't convincing enough to call it a proper horror! The heavy breathing, fake stumbling around, and the cringy 'evil spirit possessions' had me laughing and in the grips of second hand embarrassment!
The two stars are just for... a). Attempting it! B). The fake blood was quite good!
Sam Raimi, I'm disappointed that this wasn't better, with the influence you had on this movie! That's time out of my life I won't get back, and I won't ever be watching that car crash of a movie ever again!!
