The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: Shadow and Flame (2024)
Really enjoyable if you forget about canon
People nowadays complains about everything and everything they can. This show maybe is a far apart from the absolutely canon history, but if you forget it for a while, you can enjoy it for what this is: a TV show with many creative decisions, but in sum of all, a very enjoyable one.
This episode for me was fantastic. I really was interested on how this season will end. Sauron and Celebrimbor were the most interesting characters in the season in my opinion, but after this episode opening, the dwarfs won a lot of points.
Even the Numenor and proto-honbita won their points.
This season is better than the first one, but if you want to complain, nothing will make you change that opinion.
Young Woman and the Sea (2024)
This is what Disney should follow
In a world where everything is about women's empowerment over man, it's so good to watch a film where the gender didn't make any difference and show us a woman who REALLY made a great achievement considering all the social status quo from the 1920's.
The film shows us in a very entertaining way the life of a woman who would not accept that she can't swim, after she survived a terminal decease. After that, oh surprise, the little girl who nobody believes in (except her mother) is an all time swimming winner, until she lost at olympics and decides to swim over the English sea.
The acting is good, the locations and cadencies of the film are great and you can expect some tears fill your eyes in a few scenes.
However, we get some... "family friendly" scenes, poorly belieable, but which absolutely won't make the film worst. The father's redemption is a bit ridiculous, or the first scene where a doctor came down the stairs to tell all the family the little child will die... but after a few hours, the child came down asking for food.... unbeliable at least.
But, considering everything, the film is pretty good. It has a lot of charming and i certainly put it aside with other great sport movies, like "Coach Carter", "I, Tonya" or "Million Dollar Baby".
Troll (2022)
Absurd and nonsense acting
I added this movie long ago, when it gets premiered on Netflix, but watched it two days ago.... or at least the half of this movie.
The acting is sooooo bad, so bad that i'm impressed that the actors didn't tell the director how absurd were the situations they had to perform.
A Troll, a monster if you like appears, grunt and make the earth tremble, but for some reason, an old couple, living mysteriously in the middle of nowhere, didn't feel it or hear this monster until it was 10 meters away. ABSURD.
A woman, a glorified paleontologist or something like that is called by her governmentt to help in this crisis, but she arrives and get into the "empowered woman" thing and start making demands, until she arrives the war room where all the politicians are seriously mentally limited. They don't resolve anything; they waited this woman to explain things that are obvious and... i don't want to tell you more.
Don't watch this. An absolutely waste of time.
Dear Edward (2023)
It's supposed to be a boy survivor....
I really wanted this show liked me, but by 2nd and a half episodes, the airplane situation goes to background and we become observers of many unrelated and in most cases, nonsenses stories.
Seems like everyone who died in the accident, plus their families are good people with no shadows in their lives. Too many over-sweeetned moments and the soundtrack, OMG, the soundtrack is soooooo annoyng. A lot of ballads that makes you sleep while watching this.
In the end, a interesting plot, but an disastrous execution. The main hook of this series (the boy who survived and so) is forgotten early in the series and over that, you just get boring unrelated and stereotypical stories.
Laura Dern do what she can with this, but please choose wisely next time.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Too much hate to this movie
For many reasons I had to wait to watch this movie when it was released in HBO Max. In the meanwhile, I watched many videos and readed many reviews of this movie saying that this was a pointless movie, boring and even that this is a complete failure in execution.
So I watched it finally and ok, this isn't the best superhero movie I had ever seen, but it was very funny, very entertaining and I really had a good time watching it.
It's very sad that many people and reviewers buried this movie even before watched it.
It's obvious that we have to switch of our reality switch, and turn down our drama expectations and when you done that, this movie is a very good one, better than quantumania or Wakanda Forever.
I hope that we could watch Shazam in the future.
Succession: With Open Eyes (2023)
Pretty average and uncomforting
Ok. We knew we had to expect a very impactful finale for this great series, but it didn´t feel so. We start the episode in a very stresfull situation and begin 30 or 40 minutes of a very lazy and non interesting sequence between Shiv as the bad girl who wins to became the three mosqueters and... well... very strange because nothing in the previous episodes make us think that Matson could be interested in Tom to get the presidency.
Then, in the last 30 minutes, we are in what we all expected: the meeting with the votation... and... another "bear hug" scene?, Shiv take a step back... why? She even remember the accident were Kendall participates in the boy's kill from S02... but, why?
I don´t know, a very strange way to end this series. Absolutely no satisfaction about what I've watched.
And the final takes... Shiv with Tom... Tom as the new president (we all know that he's not prepared and definitely not the Mattson choice), Roman drinking like if he was winning out from Cancer and Kendall... what was that?. He wasn't my fav character, but really this is the ending for him? He ended just like that after S01 ending, S02 ending, S03 ending....
Bad episode, a 7 just for what it means for an incredible series.
Logan wouldn't be happy with this.
The White Lotus: Arrivederci (2022)
Very good season and episode, but....
This season really absorbedme. I wanted to watch all episodes in just a night. So many stories, good scripts and acting...
BUT
Why Tanya had to die? And in some so ridiculous and less dignity way? She was an anchor in this season, with some of the most hilarious scenes, and even the final moments was one of the most intese ones in the entire series. But fall from a ship and hit the head was... easy scripting and the dumbest way to terminate a character.
Also, Albi giving a woman he mets in three days 50 MM EUR? He goes to Stanford for god sake. He's kind and a bit naive, but no stupid. And to tie all things up, he encounters Portia at the airport and exchange numbers with her, even considering that she literally played games with he too. Like she don't want to loose anything cause Jack tricked her too.
Nonetheless, a great episode. A great season and i'm very expectant of a new seasons.
Oh, and the main theme. What a great piece of song.
The Menu (2022)
Disappointing at the end
This movie tries too hard to be intelligent and a good satire, but in the end just the first act is very interesting but the second loose it push, and the third act is a completely mess.
The plot is very simple; 12 people comes to an island to eat in a very exclusive restaurant. When they reach the island, they soon understand that chef and the workers are really more like a cult than any other thing. The menu start with very pretentious dishes, until One of them is disturbing, closing the first arc and the good part of the movie.
After that, the movie falls into an absurd plot where people are ok with their own death, which is really, really stupid, where nobody try to run or kill the "bad guys" or even eat food by people who have killed other in front of them.
I have read here that this movie is a satire, but it just is a pretentious movie with very good acting.
Wednesday (2022)
Same vibes of Harry Potter
I had no expectations when I start watching the show, but when I pass on the first episodes, I was really connected to the series, and one thing that surprised me is that it feels like watching some kind of Harry Potter movies like The prisoner of Azkaban.
The acting was good, the characters too. There are some things that really feels silly, but in an overlook, it works and the series ends being very funny and easy to watch. I was really surprised that I can't stop watching it until the end of the series and I am waiting the new season to know more about Wednesday.
If you have a little time, give an opportunity to this series and it hardly will disappoint you.
1899 (2022)
Too long for what it trying to say
As a BIG fan of Dark, I was expecting (as almost everyone who watched Dark) this series. It's a good series, but with too many fantastic and unexplainable things that makes it a bit difficult to connect into.
I didn't feel empathy for any character. The series abuse of silence between dialogues, people going from here to there, and from there to here. Some "sex scenes" are absolutely unnecessary. The bad guy is too much cliche, with too much cliche quotes and behavior.
Finally, the story is not so bad, but 2, or maybe 3 episodes less could make this a more digerible series.
This is not Dark. Just another series from the same people who brought us that memorable series.
Wild Babies (2022)
Love it
Technically superb. Great storytelling. A great series to watch alone or with family. Really love all the stories. I'll be waiting a season 2 from this series. Recommended.
Downsizing (2017)
Over disappointed
This movie have a great premise. The first hour is very interesting, funny, and you want to know more about all the "downsizing" thing.
But then came the second half of the movie.
Absurd. An absolutely non funny Korean girl, a very absurd situation, and all the downsizing thing has gone. A cliche social drama with poor vs rich and things like that. I fast forward almost all of the last 30 minutes. Boring.
Really disappointed. A great opportunity of a good movie lost.
Morbius (2022)
Watch it for yourself
Maybe this is not the best movie of Marvel comics, but reviewers are getting too much angry about this movie that in fact is not as bad as they say.
I recommend watch it and make your own opinion, because I really didn't wanna watch it because All the reviews around, but when I did it, it really liked me and I got a very good time doing it.
Better Call Saul: Point and Shoot (2022)
Speechless
If all the time spent watching Breaking Bad and this show led us to this episode, man, it totally worthed it.
Speechless. Everything ties up perfectly. Every detail, every dialogue. Idk if this is a movie or "just" a TV episode.
11/10.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Really good and fun
Every episode made me want to watch the next one. The acting is good, the places too and the storytelling is intriguing and addictive.
I don't want to compare it with another series, but the anxiety this series provoques me is just comparable with the Dark episodes in this same platform.
Unforgettable.
King Richard (2021)
Good but.... this girl really wins everything.
I enjoyed the movie, but when Venus start winning, she wins every game and that's a bit boring. You feel that the character had no danger and well, the last game try to show us that she loses just by a tricky made by her opponent.
Smith deserves the Oscar. I really hated his personification.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Better than revolutions.
I really enjoyed this movie. Maybe we all expect something that blow out our minds, but in the end, we get a lot of fun, references and a good script.
The only thing I really missed is the original Morfeo and Smith actors. The new one are pretty "meh".
And yes, for me, this was far better than revolutions.
Invasion (2021)
Invasion of boringness
When you watch the trailer, it seems like this series will has a mystery-thriller plot, with aliens, sci-fi, and a lot to be surprised.
But after watch 3 episodes, what a waste of time. Side stories that really no one cares, no aliens, no mysteries, nothing.
I really want this series liked me, but no.
Old (2021)
Very good with a silly ending
The idea is good, fun movie with many "soft twists", but the ending is silly. The last 15 minutes are avoidable.
And please someone explain why a white skin boy raises as a brown skin one.
Cry Macho (2021)
Slow but in the same mood like the last Clint's films
I liked it. A very slow film, but like Gran Torino, it's a life history, a road film. Fun to watch, but no more than that.
The only bad point is the "13th year old boy" looks like a 20th one, and it's ridiculously obvious that the actor has more age.
The White Lotus: Departures (2021)
Good series, awful episode
Don't get me wrong, the series is very good, i enyoied all episodes.... but the series START with the mistery of who is into the coffin, but when the mistery is solved in this episode it feels empty, like it's unimportant to future seasons.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021)
Who approved this?
Boeing, plain, cliché. Absurd in the majority of cases where need to take some decision.
Pass from this, this not worth it.
New Amsterdam (2018)
Everything goes well in this series
Nobody dies. Every crisis is solved in minutes. No differentials and the answers comes from anywhere. This show is like an new season of the Ingals family.
Minari (2020)
Good movie, but the end feels empty
I like this movie and it's funny to watch, good acting and well developed characters. But when the movie ends, you feel that some things are not resolved. It ends and that's all.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
This is the infinity war of the DCEU
I really had no hopes about this movie, but when the credits came, i can't believe that were so close to never watch this cut. I don't call this movie masterpiece, instead of that, i called this redemption of Snyder as a director.
