Good God, I have no idea how many times I cringed in the first five minutes of this drivel. It actually started with the opening "music" which sounded like something from a 1950's Frankenstein movie and everything just went downhill from there.
I was really wondering how the producers of this could get it so wrong from the off and THEN - amazingly, it got worse! A "You have twenty-four hours to complete your mission" voice turns up (just without the exploding envelope) and off we go to some far off section of space and to some of the worst characters ever created by any Star Trek series or movies.
Two sentences from completely ridiculously made up "actors" (and I use that term lightly) and I just switched off.

Season 2 of The Rig is heralded proudly on all the Scottish new channels as "being totally made in the studios in Edinburgh". The only problem is that it looks it! Rig design CGI courtesy of the team from Call of Duty and standard warship grey paint everywhere. Even their Rover looks like it might have originated from something Ford originally produced but, of course, as a Rover that would have been from British Leyland.
There is virtually no cohesive story, the characters all seem to get five seconds of dialogue each to establish themselves then disappear for the next scene. And...all the crew from Season 1 appear to be expert in undersea salvage operations including Martin Compton who, having instantly recovered from some strange illness, takes control.
So, in summary and unfortunately, it's not only the Scottish Government who can fail miserably to produce anything good for Scotland.

I really enjoyed this movie and thought that the "slow pace" which seems to have annoyed other reviewers was absolutely perfect for this one.
Ian McShane played the part to perfection and his interaction with all the other characters was, for me at least, a masterclass in acting. There was a wonderful tenderness shown to all of them and I could be completely wrong but if his attitude to them working on set with him was the same then it would be an absolute joy to work with him.
Having been on holiday to Fuerteventura only a couple of months ago the scenery was very familiar and, in particular, at random, we actually visited the same coves used in the movie so they were great to see.
Wonderful acting, wonderful scenery and cinematogrophy, loved it!
