Rescue 8 (1958)
Rescue 8 - What a great show!
Rescue 8! What a great show! This is another of those little-known shows from the past that have stuck in my memory and influenced my childhood imagination. I too remember the intricate ropes and harnesses used to rescue people out of danger, and spent many hours recreating the situations with string and plastic army men. Rescue 8 was realistic and exciting, well-made and memorable, unlike the cheap imitation, 'Emergency' (no offense to Emergency fans). Where is the secret vault where these episodes are stored? Or are they lost? Perish the thought! Many other old shows have found their way back to TV or DVD, why not these? Any surviving episodes would be welcome. My eleven-year-old would enjoy them as much as I would. Hopefully the lady who commented earlier who was actually on the show could share some more of her memories with us (please).
The Americans (1961)
Excellent show
I really liked this show, The Americans. I can't believe it was only on for a year! Civil War action, what more did a kid want back then? (Except maybe the Alamo.) Thanks to IMDB for having some info about it. And thanks to Candace for steering me here because apparently nobody else has bothered to deal with this excellent show. At least I remember it as excellent. If I saw it today, it might not live up to my rosy memory, but I'd like to give it a try. Some old TV shows weren't preserved, and it would be a shame if this old show became 'history', literally. We can only hope for the best. I'd like to share it with my kids. It beats much of what is on TV today for youngsters. What will our kids be reminiscing about in their later years? Don't get me started. One more thing --- I've enjoyed reading all the comments by everybody and I have to say, I don't recall the 'Daisy May' episode. But I was only about 8 years old at the time and probably considered that one boring. Also, it would be great to find a web site with some photos from the show. Let's keep searching.
Adventures in Paradise (1959)
Reminiscences
I was a fan of Adventures in Paradise (AIP) many years ago as a kid. It's nice to find a web site that has some info on it. Kudos to IMDB. I remember little more about this show than a big sailboat, a cute dark-haired girl, and a lot of exciting episodes. Oh, and of course, the theme music, which, by the way, you can download from a link on page 13 of this IMDB site. Many of these old TV shows were not preserved. Wouldn't it be nice if AIP was still available? I don't know if it is or not, but it would be fun to share it with my young ones. It beats much of what's on now. Makes you wonder what our kids will be reminiscing about years from now. Scary... I'm still looking for a site with photos from this series.
