Portal (2009)
Strange movie
A very disjointed story about a coven of witches holding people captive at a motel that exists in a time loop. The acting is passable but the characters are uninteresting and uninspired. The witches are using the humans to breed a "specal" child but we never find out why. There were some gratuitous scenes of violence and sex that didn't seem to further the plot but they did provide a nice break in the lack of action. Poorly edited, difficult to follow and in the end predictable. If you like bad movies for their own sake this would be one to check out. It is easy to see why there is so little information available for this flick.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
disappointing start
First off just let me say that I am a fan of medical dramas as a rule. I am an ER nurse and I usually enjoy fictional shows based on hospital or pre-hospital situations. That said I was disappointed in Grey's Anatomy mostly because of the gross medical errors in the script. This could be an excellent show but they need to take the time to research actual medical procedures, conditions, drugs, etc. to give the show some depth in reality.
For example a patient that arrives by helicopter would first go to the ER not to a private room. Second Dr. Shepard is a surgical attending but the only surgery we see him do is neurosurgery, which is a completely different discipline. Then we see Dr. Burke perform an appendectomy and an open heart in the same episode. Again general surgery and cardiovascular surgery are different disciplines. Also when the girl has here "grand mal" seizure they give the right drugs but in the wrong amounts. When the girl goes into cardiac arrest they show the ECG monitor and it shows a completely different rhythm then the one they are treating.
This could be a great show with a little more work put into it. One of things that makes ER so appealing is that it is a fairly accurate (for a TV show) portrayal of a real ER. I like the characters in Grey's Anatomy and I think the cast has some good chemistry and a lot of potential. Hopefully the writers will take some time to put a little more reality into the script.
