Why has this movie been produced. Not funny, no content and most of all: unspeakable bad acting.
The whole thing looks like a provocation of the audience. Just don't watch it!!

Having watched this great movie nearly 60 years after its creation, I am absolutely fascinated. Not so much by the art of the actors (Alec Guinness as Fagin is the outstanding exception) but by the atmosphere and perfect direction. David Lean has done much better with "Oliver Twist" than with opulent dramas of the 60s. What I missed was a more detailed description of Claypoles character and behavior. This figure plays an extremely important part in Charles Dickens masterpiece and is actually more interesting than the colorless Oliver himself. As a conclusion I can only thank the director for a great cinema evening and wonder, why these intelligent movies are a rarity today.
I ve seen this perfect roadmovie at least 20 times and I will never get tired with it. Every time I discover new hidden details or sentences I never noticed before. Things waitresses say or what Louise does with her hair at a certain stop. I just love every dialogue, as they are never boring or dull. Brad Pitt and husband Daryll are alone worth watching this movie, but even without them it would be perfect enter- tainment. And I surely think its no pur women-movie. This story is just about poor people in the heart of America without any perspectives and surprises in their life. Thelma and Louise experience what the absolute majority of American middle classe never will, a kind of freedom and self-esteem. So watch this movie and you may understand, why 30 times "Thelma and Louise" are better than two times "Star Wars", "Lawrence of Arabia" or unacceptable "Fight Club".
