Sweet Girl (2021)
Another "Usual Suspects" style debacle
We will give the plot away in the last 5 mins without ANY clues prior to that.
I love whodunits that are done well, but when its a who done it that makes no attempt at giving clues until it slaps you in the face, right at the end of the movie, with the story it was actually trying to tell is just a complete let down. Sadly this is also quite disjointed. The contract killers attitude in the dinner makes very little sense either way the story is told. The movie keeps jumping which doesnt help. One assumes it is to make the girl older at the end of the movie.

Ultimately a Let Down 👎
My Son (2021)
Missing Person Child Kidnap movie
Some fun actors
Very bleak Landscape
Im not sure this movie ever makes up its mind. Drifting from Missing Person, to Possible Kidnap movie. Is it someone in the family. Then is it specific to the Dad & his work. The Dad then becomes a vigilante but despite the police being removed from the missing persons and the major kidnapping ring. At the end of the movie the Dad is warned that 'hopefully' the judge will take all this into consideration, which makes absolutely no sense. Kidnapping children for whatever nefarious reason, child after child after child, attempting to kill the Dad with guns and other weapons and the Dad is warned.
It is a bleak movie and the plot seemed quite disjointed but the actors were quite good in it.

The Best Man (2023)
Very Average Movie with no redeeming qualities
Awful, no real reason given why a bunch of heavily armed "Terrorists" decide to crash a wedding and kill all the guests. All the girls scream there heads off. All of the collaborators end up getting shot....theres a surprise!!! The hotel is apparently in the middle of no where where there is zero mobile phone signal and they make sure they get into the security room to take out the wifi so there's no internet either. One of the girls gets a satellite phone and tries to cal the cops but they are 30 mins away and therefore a complete waste of time and space. The sound track is boring as hell. The dialog is awful.

An American Pickle (2020)
Seth Rogen has a lot of fun playing off of his own character
On one hand Hershel is an out of time bigot from 100 years in the past, time traveled to the present by being pickled in a pickle factory. On the other Ben plays his own descendent who is bitter at how quickly hershel makes a success of selling artisan pickles on the streets. Ben encourages hershel to put his dated jewish thoughts on twitter which vilifies him. Then in a debate he debases other but its not until he goes after the christians that there is a man hunt for him. Ben admits to hershel he has ben sabotaging hurshel, hershel shaves off his beard and takes his revenge on his american descendant. Ben gets deported as hershel.
The plot plays well off of the prejudice between jews, christians, women, gays etc, managing to upset them all to amusing effect.

Kept me amused for the entire movie 👍
892 (2022)
Based on a True Story, first 5 mins borrrring
Feels like this is going to set the tone for the whole movie
Threaten a bank with a bomb 2 hostages and an empty bank.
To make a point, to get a story out.
However hes acting screwy because he's an ex war vet.
His pension from the VA has been stoped, by mistake, which they won't own up to or rectify.
We know there are reported problems with the VA so its not surprising this is based on a true story.
Its just very slow without much to hold the attention.
It probably speaks more to the families of Vets than the general public but it is disgusting when governments do this to people who need help and support not vilification.
Since when do snippers take out the perp without permission from the negotiators, who, as far as ive always understood it, is in control.

White Noise (2022)
Boring, Boring, Boring
What is this meant to be about.
College Professor talking about hitler...
Too many kids...
If this is meant to be a slice of life, why is it not more interesting. Slice of life has to be more interesting since the subject itself is by its very nature is boring but the script writer and directer obviously missed this message with this one. Again why is it set in the distant past. Are we supposed to be interested in what happened pre cell phones in this kind of movie. I guess at least if your going to make a bad movie, make it with bad actors, ive never enjoyed Kylo Ren as an actor, He just has no life in him, no feeling, no action, so putting him in another boring tiresome role is no great shame.
Seriously, a family with a car and a toxic cloud of gas, get the kids in there car and drive a few hundred miles away. Don't just sit there saying its not coming our way. Move, get out of there. Finally they decide to move but they are obviously all dumb as mud for not moving sooner.
Just like that this stupid toxic event is over. No explanation, no comment on not being allowed outside. No reference to the car floating down the river.... Nothing. This movie gets more stupid by the minuet.

Devotion (2022)
20 mins of terror followed by 2 hours of boredom
Don't get me wrong, we owe so much to solders, sailors & airmen plus the thousands of support staff. We would not live in a relatively safe democracy if it werent for the millions who have given there lives in all of the wars fought since 1814 onwards. & its nice to see a movie about a Black pilot.
But ive seen so many based on real events war movies, its hard to get excited by this sort of thing. They tried, the action scenes are exceptional, the cgi is excellent, good acting, pretty good script but the plot is lacking. Its so long and boring with plenty of yawn fest in it. OK so based on true events but that doesnt make the true events fun. The scene where the pilots are initially bared from the casino and our protagonist speaks to them in french, i know a little french but not enough to understand french in a movie without subtitles and there were no subtitles and so no explanation as to what was said to gain access. And once in the casino scenes were boring. All of the human interest scenes were better suited to a drama movie than an action movie. All in all, the actions scenes were well done but the remaining 2 hours were a yawn fest.
God's Country (2022)
Boring 25 mins into a 100 min movie and nothing has happened
She's a teacher
She leads a pretty ordinary life
Two Hunters park on her property and act threateningly towards her
The next time, she tow's there car off her property
They fire an arrow into her door
She calls the cops
The cop tries to brush her off.
All of this to tell the story of an Ex Cop, let down, during the New Orleans hurricane & floods.
And now it's about employment diversity.
Then it escalates to dogiside
Then her house is burnt down
Finally she looses it and takes the law into her own hands
The Plot is boring
The Script is boring
The sound is mediocre
The Photography is mediocre

A Man Called Otto (2022)
Sad & Happy Slice of Life
Oh the idiots in our life, there are many and i have much sympathy for Otto.
Some things He could have let go, others needed doing.
Its is extremely well filmed, good sound, acted and scripted.
It leaves quite a few unanswered questions, which are probably considered unnecessary for the over all plot but some of those questions would have been better answered. Tom Hanks does a wonderful job as Otto. The supporting cast are good. There are plenty of up's and downs. I can't really fault anything about the movie. It does end up being a tragic comedy. I guess when He helps his fellow neighbours, there are feel good moments, it would be better if there were more but that is a personal opinion.
Pretty Good Scripting
Pretty Good Filming
Pretty Good Acting
Pretty Good Sound Track
Its Definitely worth a watch 👍
Transfusion (2023)
Drunk Camera Man, does not bode well
The camera is all over the place, wandering camera you might say.
The music is not particularly suited to the movie.
A few seconds of soldier getting shot.
Then the same guy as Dad hunting with his Son.
Then the pregnant Mum has a car crash with her Son & baby, baby & Mom don't make it.
30 mins in and its all about a struggling single Dad bringing up his Son alone and the Son is delinquent.
Very very slow so far.
A Theft adds a little spice but its grotty.
Son makes sort of friends at school who cajole Son into driving car drunk & He turns it over. Father torches car. Dad owner of car threatens police, seems pointless. The Son is on probation. But the Son would not have got the keys or been able to drive the car if the owners Son had not been a bad influence. It would have been better to point this out to the Dad.
The path the writer took made less sense.
& when the Dad tells his Son to stay away from his new friends, of course He rebells.
The movie continues to depend into a hell scape, one disaster leading to the next.
The end is not really surprising or enjoyable.

Night Train (2023)
No Atmosphere, No Plot
11 mins in, no atmosphere and no plot, does not bode well.
So a few seconds of speed racing
a few seconds of modifying cars, trucks and bikes as part of the business
a few seconds of lil boy needing meds
Mom trying to buy meds
Mom not getting meds because supply chain being shut down
Mom offers to drug run so she can get her sons meds for free
there no speed
no action
no excitement
and the plot jumps all over the place without really telling us anything.
Ultimately its a non story & really not worth bothering with
Any action it could have had, was either never filmed or cut, leaving a very very boring nothing movie.
The Plot is All Over the Place
The Script is mediocre
The sound is Atrocious

High Heat (2022)
Fun Shoot em up
At last, after a summer of lack lustre awful movies, at last something half way decent and watchable.
Some of the acting and plot line is a bit hammy but the basic principle is solid.
Ex KGB hiding in plain site as an owner chef opens her dream place but her hubby and the mob have other ideas and want to burn it down for the insurance. However they messed with the wrong woman this time.
There are some silly scenes eg close quarters with machine guns agains pistols and only the bad guys end up getting hurt. A loopy family who are half friend and half foe also interject an element of the krazy family who pick up the minions on the way to villain con.
Ultimately the bad guys get what's coming to them.
Its formulaic, its nothing special, but considering what has come before it recently, at least they tried with this.
The Plot is OK
The Script is OK
The sound is OK

Mindcage (2022)
Atmospheric
The three leads were very good
John Malkovich
Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys)
Melissa Roxburgh
There were plenty of red herrings, which on a normal whodunnit would be appreciated
However the twist in this one was as stupid as the usual suspects
ie no clues until the end and then you learn everything in a few mins and its just plain stupid.
Its always been a stretch that one human could project themselves into another human.
But control the human, speak through them, control their actions, including ritual murder....
Stupid.
Despite a stupid plot, the actors are eminently watchable. The plot, very Silence of the lambs perhaps with elements of saw & se7en.
Good Scripting baring the twist at the end
Good Filming
Good Acting
Good Sound Track
The Plot is a very far fetched
Its worth a watch for the 3 lead actors 👍
The Humans (2021)
Slow boring fly on the wall
The dialog is so bad its like someone is having a conversation in the next room and you need to strain to hear anything despite having 7.1 digital sound system turned up. The sound engineer needs to be shot. Turn up the sound just to hear the inane dialog and the music is way to loud!
The sets are plane boring no effort. There is supposed to be something going bump in the night, half way through and still NOTHING has happened.
The filming is so bad, heads keep getting cut off.
The loud noises and blown bulbs are of little consequence. The only actor who actually gets scared by what's going on around him doesnt get scared until the last 5 mins and there's still no reason to be scared, other than fear itself.
If this was meant to be scary, its so wide of the mark its laughable.
Theres 100 mins of my life i won't get back.

Black Friday (2021)
Silly but exceptionally fun Black Friday variation
Black Fridays in USA offer much better deals than the UK so although americans going nuts over fantastic deals seems crazy, when you understand the deals they are fighting over are unmissable offers, its no wonder they go nuts. The writers and directors took this concept to the Nth degree and threw in some alien influence and zombie looking infections too boot. The store doesnt look that realistic but if you suspend belief and just accept its a silly tongue in cheek comedy horror, its actually quite good and funny.

Me Time (2022)
Self Deprecating Dad & party mate on "Me Time" trip
Self Deprecating Dad Kevin Hart
& partying Mark Wahlberg
In a silly "Me Time" movie.
Mark Wahlberg wants Kevin to join him each year to celebrate his birthday in silly fun ways which as Kevin turns into a Dad He finds harder and harder to say yes too. Then He decides his wife can take the kids for a weekend while He has another fling with his friend and gets some
quality "Me Time".
The antics that follow are silly to say the least. Including giant tortoises which typical americans call mistakenly turtles. Not even sure you can own giant tortoises as pets.
Plenty of dirty situations.
There are some fun moments.
Its not a keeper but its entertaining for 100 mins.

Nope (2022)
Makes no sense
Craft engulfs lots of people, more than seem possible for the size of the craft when seen up close. When hard things spat out of craft, almost like the indigestible remains. They could not have come out without being accelerated in some fashion and seems incredulous.
The Chimp act is totally pointless and a waste of time, we know what happened, there was no reason to show it.
Why is the craft eating people.

Rubikon (2022)
Slow & boring Sci-Fi
No reason is given for this toxic fog rapidly covering planet earth
Other than humans have been screwing up the planet since industrialisation.
The will they, won't they, gets a bit much after a time.
The Gravity (low budget) is mysterious.
This movie fails to explain most of the plot.
Cut to 10ish years later, one initially assumes, why... as in, we are condemning the inhabitants to a long slow lonely death. Then we hear a radio signal from a group in the southern hemisphere who can walk around outside without breathing apparatus.
How the oddball family unit is supposed to get down to the planet is never explored.
The movie makes no sense, doesnt explain anything and is achingly slow.

Fall (2022)
Basophobia - a Fear of Falling
In this instant, it's a genuine fear.
Now, If the tower is still working, its structure should be maintained and its hazard light in particular should be Maintained. So why was it not disabled earlier and why when it was disabled was it not investigated sooner by the person responsible for maintaining the bulb.
Now comes the really sticky parts of the plot...
1. Its out of commission
2. There is zero reason why a cell phone will work at a lower height but not at a higher height since the tower is out of commission.
3. The poor state of repair can be used to explain an out of commission tower but if it is permanent PULL IT DOWN.
4. Read some of the climbing Reviews from other contributors. I adore climbing and have been having a whale of a time reading how atrocious the use of the climbing gear was and how bad the climbing consultant obviously was.
5. Yes absolutely it is a homage to stupid idiotic youtubers & ticktockers
6. I absolutely love how slated this movie is by people who know there stuff.
It is true that someone who has a bad experience climbing may need a tall ladder to overcome their fears.
Despite the obvious idiocy around the plot and climbing faux pars.
The one thing i liked around this movie was to make you feel your heart jump into your mouth in the hope they don't fall. That fear of falling is a genuine feeling nearly all humans have. It's a healthy feeling. If the girls had been tied in at the top of the tower it probably would be a lot more reassuring, the fact they weren't was both stupid and heart stopping.
The camera shots are breathtaking and fun to watch.
The biggest problem is they pretend the actors are seasoned climbers and then break every rule in the book.
Its stupid
its extremely inaccurate
the climbing references are complete bunk
the cell phone references are complete bunk.
The emergency light being disabled should have brought help quicker.
But if you enjoy scary things filmed at height, it certainly is well filmed despite all its shortcomings
Good Filming

Odd Thomas (2013)
4th Dimensional Beings
Thomas can see these 4th dimensional beings who either live in the 4th dimension or at the very least can see the 4th dimension, even at a limited extent. The beings know death is coming although in this universe the expected deaths can be altered. The animation is very well handled. There is a twist & the twist is not good as its only reviled right at the end & who done its with no clues are awful generally like 'the usual suspects' however this who done it is not as necessary to know or work out, the film is as enjoyable with or without the twists.
There are however two sad endings to this movie.
The first is plot based.
The second is, the film was clearly being lined up for a sequel and sadly the actor playing the Thomas died in reality at a very young age. Sadly this means it is extremely unlikely we will ever see a sequel to this movie without a new different protagonist.
Such a shame.

Beast (2022)
The beast is really man.
But then there is no explanation why the lion goes after a village. Other than they are humans too. Its a bit of a Non movie for plot but since its also obviously a Covid19 movie, its obviously kept human interaction to a minimum which does detract from movies in general. As a Covid19 movie, it's not too bad. It's not a keeper. Plot wise, the Dad and his two girls keep making really stupid mistakes which seem silly for an educated doctor given where they are visiting.

Tadeo Jones 2: El secreto del Rey Midas (2017)
The animation is OK, apart from the dubbing
A live action foreign movie is too difficult to refilm but I have great admiration for a good dubbing job. Not only is the dubbing of this movie sloppy, but reanimating is eminently possible & easy enough to do, especial when they are trying to sell to a foreign market like the english speaking market. Therefore the dubbing is eminently sloppy.
Subsequently my little boy then asks impossible questions about a questionable plot where they are trying to turn a fable into a plot for a movie and add plot line which makes no sense.
So as a Dad im stuck trying to explain that cartoons lie, all the time.

Caprica (2009)
Drunk CameraMan, Religious Crap
Some sort of weird 50's technology like gas guzzlers combined with future tech.
The religious part of the story is way too much
There is Zero reason to make a series these days showing actors smoking
and as with BattleStar, the camera man or woman is obviously drunk as a skunk as they cant keep the camera still to save there lives. It really ruins every single program that uses this technique or camera person. Directors need to stand up and say enough is enough this is No way to film a series or a movie.
All in all, if it werent for all the negatives, this might have been a good prequel to an equally crappy main course (battlestar) but sadly they are both extremely lacking in any sort of finesse or understanding that normalizing vehicles that have been destroying our beautiful planet for centuries, or smoking that has been destroying our population for centuries, or employing drunk camera people is not the way to make a good tv series.
C'mon C'mon (2021)
B & W YUCK!!!!
I grew up with B&W TV, i hated it, it really really really annoys me when people decide to film something modern in B&W and this crap about we dream in B&W is just idiotic, I ALWAYS dream in color and its glorious. The ONLY B&W worth watching is something that was filmed before we could film in color around the 1920's etc. That was made specifically for the audience to enjoy despite the lack of color. And watching it in B&W white is the only way to watch it. Im even not a fan of false color.
