I went into the theater expecting a dark comedy, something amusing and messed up. Well, it was dark, but it was not a comedy. This movie is indeed messed up, and at times amusing. In the end, it was a very enjoyable film. There was no redemption. There was no happy ending. This movie was a cynical, satirical look at life. The characters herein were very human. The majority of humans today are not deep, thoughtful persons, they are shallow, self-important, like the characters in the film. This movie is closer to reality than many people would like to think. We like to think that we are somehow noble beings, better than our base desires.
This film will likely not appeal to everyone. It is a disturbing look into the darker side of humanity, a side of us that we do not wish to acknowledge, despite that so many of us give in to that darker side on a daily basis. If you can stand a look into the darker side of human nature, this film is a masterpiece. If, however, you do not wish to see what we, as humans, can be like, then I suggest you choose a different movie.

I love this show. It is absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. Despite the opinions of some prior reviewers, the cast has a strong chemistry with one another, and all the characters show both ambition and ruthlessness in the pursuit of their goals, as well as a human side, with real feelings and even a conscience. The actors fit their parts extremely well, so well in fact that I find myself despising Kirby just as much as I despised the idiot jocks I've known who were so hung up on themselves they couldn't see two feet past their nose. And I find that the comedic moments are excellent as well, some of the funniest have been provided by Sandra Oh as Rita Wu. This show, along with Dennis Miller Live, may be one of the two best items among the many that fill up HBO's time slots.
I will attempt to rate this movie without bias.
The movie itself was fairly good. It seemed less character driven than story driven, however. The movie attempted, and succeeded, to tell a story, however, what it failed to do was to make you really care about the characters. It seemed to barely give many characters and their motivations a once-over, if it even did that. Try as I might, I simply could not bring myself to actually care about the characters. There was obviously internal struggle and drama in certain scenes, and various emotions the characters felt at certain times, however with the lack of character development in this movie, it simply didn't work as intended.
This movie was a fairly decent movie in and of itself, but it simply wasn't true to the book. The film seems a bit rushed, like they simply didn't have enough time to put everything they wanted in there.
