Senna (2024)
Sennas Mother must have Directed this
It is quite obvious that the Senna - Da Silva family had a hand in this, and a very strict one at that. Senna is described as a saint. He's always kind and nice and puts up with everything that's done to him. That's boring and superficial. There are no conflicts except with Prost and Balestre.
The dialog is so incredibly flat, any daily soap is literature by comparison. I want to be first. He's the best. I'm the fastest. I want to win. But that's dangerous! But I want to win. But you've already won. But I want to win again.
What about Senna's women's stories? That would have had potential. Didn't he have any vices? People like that don't exist. But when his mother is involved in writing the script ...
His parents also come across as saints. Always understanding, always patient, kind, indulgent and noble. Yes, of course.
The action pictures are top-notch, though. Not completely groundbreaking, but very impressive. Especially the sound design was awesome.
The Substance (2024)
Could have been more
Visually it's striking, the sets are original and creative, the colors amazing.
The problem with this movie is that it made me hate the disgusting old woman and I wanted her to finally die, so the young hot girl could take over and live her life. I totally rooted for her. I understood her lust for life, and why she wanted to take just a little more if the substance.
Was this really the intention?
Plus, the ending is just funny gore-fest and a bit boring. It doesn't add much to the themes of the movie.
I would have loved to see more scenes between the woman and her young clone, where they have some kind of real exchange, not just try to kill each other. I never felt they are two parts of the same soul. Why wouldn't the girl at least try to convince her *mother* to let her take over? You had your life, now let me live mine. I'll keep your name in honor. Or why couldn't they try to team up to get more stabilizer? Why didn't the mother try to talk some sense into the girl?
Becoming Karl Lagerfeld (2024)
Miscast
Daniel Brühl makes an honest effort, but is unfortunately completely miscast as Karl Lagerfeld. Not that he doesn't look like him. The problem is more that he doesn't radiate the slightest charisma. He appears lenient, opportunistic, dull and boring, just the contrary of the real Karl Lagerfeld. The characters around him are much more interesting and way more colorful. Maybe that's why the makers decided to edit him out of the show, more or less. They must have realized what a terrible mistake they made and decided to focus the show on the more interesting side characters.
That could put a real dent in his career.
They should have renamed the show.
Achtsam Morden (2024)
Plotholes and smoking Barrels
The scripts are solid, despite the somewhat simple-minded police. Unfortunately, the plot leaves a lot to be desired. Tom Schilling saves the whole thing with his outstanding presence, but sometimes you do wonder what the makers were thinking. For example, an assassin throws a hand grenade into a car without first checking whether there is anyone inside. He does the same thing a second time, throwing a hand grenade into an apartment without first checking whether the person he wants to kill is even in the apartment - an apartment in which the target does not even live, but in which he is only supposed to be hiding, which the assassin's employer only knows from an intercepted phone call. What's more, a special police squad has already stormed into the apartment at this point - how can the assassin not have noticed this? This is too implausible even for a comedy.
The role of Toni is a caricature and almost destroys the series. He exudes no danger whatsoever and is not funny. Marc Hosemann really didn't have a good day here, or the director has problems leading actors. Maybe he should take some extra lessons from Guy Ritchie when it comes to bizarre supporting characters.
Spieleabend (2024)
Boring, dull and not funny - PC Comedy of 2024
Wetflix germany is obviously trying to make the lead of this movie a star, a brand. Well maybe they should have chosen someone who can actually act. One feels sorry for this guy. The director also wasn't of much help, it seems.
Also the chemistry with the female lead doesn't work at all, which is fatal for the movie as it is based on their relationship. She appears like his mother.
The story is terribly boring and moved on far too slowly. The characters are so over the top and the acting so exaggerated, even for a comedy, that it's never funny. For a slapstick boulevard comedy, on the other hand, the gags aren't crude enough. Comedy is a difficult genre!
The autistic guy is a bad joke. Just putting on a pair of glasses doesn't make you an autistic person. So bad.
The movie is very german. It's not attacking anyone or anything. Very PC. Trying not to offend anybody. Just flat and timid and without a heart.
Humour is about BREAKING taboos, guys. No guts no humour no fun.
The Beekeeper (2024)
Disgusting
This is such a horrible and disgusting piwce of trash. The worst movie I've ever seen.
This complete psychopath played by Jason Statham goes on a killing spree just because an old woman who was nice to him got scammed and her money was stolen.
He kills dozens, hundreds of innocent policemen and FBI agents just to revenge this old lady, and to being down a scamming ring of thieves. It's so out of proportion! Who the hell wrote that script? These people, the bad guys, they steal money, that's bad, yes. But it doesn't justify ONE murder that Statham's character commits. And he kills dozens. Dozens of agents and policemen and soldiers, call center operators, bodyguards of the president. It's a bloodbath. He slaughters and kills a whole troop of special forces in the most brutal way you can think of, shoving them in an elevator and dropping this elevator 20 floors. He cuts the fingers of a call center operator, then tortures him, ties him to a car, pushes the car into a river. He burns a woman alive. He burns several people alive. He stabs several people in the neck, until they bleed to death. He loves hanging people, and strangling them to death.
This isn't a movie, it's torture porn.
And you so hate him for that. 20 minutes in you start to loathe that guy for killing so many family fathers, sons, brothers. For what? For nothing. For bringing down the stupid son of a president who's a cokehead. A funny internet whiz kid that loves Yoga and singing bowls. That's the bad guy.
The longer the movie goes, the more you wish that someone finally kills this dangerous psychopath, played by Jason Statham, who should be the hero of this movie.
The action scenes are mostly laughable, comical idiocies. He fights alone against 6,7,8 highly trained professional, standing around him fully armed, and kills them all in seconds.
Man, I used to love Jason Statham. But now I hate him for doing this despicable piece of misanthropic evil. I'll never watch a movie with him again. He has coproduced this movie, so he's responsible, he knew very well what he was doing. I seriously believe that this man has lost it. He must have a screw loose or something.
I give two stars because there are some fine actors in the supporting roles. The movie wasn't cheap. But it's gonna tank at the box office, that's for sure. Stathams career is over.
