I gave it a try because it had Alison Steadman in it and I wasn't disappointed. Easy to watch and very funny. I liked the way it was filmed by the son Sam and some of the secret conversations are very funny. The banter between the characters is inspired but you really have to concentrate on the dialogue to get the full benefit. The chaotic situation the family get themselves into are crazy and sometimes toe curlingly embarrassing. If I have one criticism it's the jumping back and forth in the time line. Two weeks before,Three weeks later, One month earlier . However I really hope there is a second series to enjoy.
As much as I am enjoying this new series I can't understand why two Police Officers need to get romantically
involved. It is very unprofessional and detracts from the storyline. I am getting a little tired of the flirty glances
and suggestive smirks going on between them. Otherwise a watchable series.
I was slightly dubious about this updated version of H E Bates books. Anyway I gave it a chance and I was glad I did. All the characters are hilarious and beautifully portrayed. I especially love the cantankerous vicar played by Peter Davison. When I stopped comparing it to the original and noticing some characters colour (which is totally irrelevant) I enjoyed the characters for themselves and got a lot of pleasure watching every episode. Bring on series 2 👍🏻
