Hunters (2020)
Absolutely Ridiculous...
What a freakin' joke. I get about nine minutes into the first episode, and I just had to stop there. Unfreakin' believable. Why? The episode (and series) is set in 1977 (part of my generation), but the dialogue is sooooo present day, with all of the present day slang and curse word sayings. Absolutely ridiculous. Let alone the totally unbelievable opening scene, as well as the open marijuana use. Drugs were considered major crime back then, so any open smoking of a joint on the street is just impossible to believe. Like, is this series supposed to be a parody....like Brooklyn Nine Nine? If you are an intelligent human being, then don't waste your time with this garbage. A total waste of production funding. A slapstick concept, proving the point about Hollywood..."It's not what you know, it's who you know". Entertainment is one thing, but this....? Goes to show that a good story can easily be ruined by writing and direction. Not surprising given the quality of workmanship coming out of this generation today. Cheap, cheap, cheap. They make too much money for next to zero effort.
The Night Agent (2023)
I COULDN'T GET PAST THE FIRST 15 MINUTES
OMG I couldn't watch past the first fifteen minutes. The acting, dialogue, and directing is soooooo bad. I had some hope when I saw Robert Patrick, but that fizzled out during the next scene. I get the impression that this is a high school production, put together with high-end video cameras and lighting. Sadly, with costs as high as they are now, especially when dealing with unions, this could be the production of the future. Gone are the high quality directing, acting, and dialogue of days gone past. An actor is only as good as the director guiding them.
This could be a great plot...I don't know, and I'll never know, because I just can't watch such a low quality production. Boooooo.
Bosch (2014)
Very realistic
I caught this show by chance. A news promo came out about great shows that you're missing, listing Bosch as one of them. After episode 1, I was in awe. Kinda like I felt in the first few moments of Star Wars way back when at the drive inn when it first came out. All of Bosch is filmed on location. That alone is incredible these days. But the acting, dialogue, and writing...all superior. The first season is mostly about the policing routine of homicide detective H. Bosch. Later on in the following seasons, we get to see more personal drama. I'm not a fan of such, but it was still well written. My position is that if you can watch a series more than once, it is good. I've watched this series 3 times now. It is that good. Better in the beginning, but still quite awesome all the way through. And now we have Bosch: Legacy. Season 1 I have watched twice already. It is very good as well.
Jack Ryan (2018)
What happened?
What happened with season three? Season one...incredible. A 10 star rating. Season two...a bit unbelievable, but still great...maybe 7.5 out of 10. But season three? WTF! With the amount of money they spend on production, you'd think that they wouldn't cut corners. Right from the start of season three: episode 1, I had to turn it off after 4 minutes. Why? Set in Russia, but speaking English with a Russian accent. WTF? If this was 1980, then fine. But this was filmed in 2021-2022. All foreign locations should be speaking their native languages. After watching only two episodes of season three, so far the locations have been the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, and Russia, but everyone speaks English (with accents). Even the political heads of state. WTF? What a major turn off. At one point, Jack asks to use a computer in Greece. The screen is in English, even thought the local was just using it.
Also, some quick dialogue, probably to avoid film editing for content and time allocation. Hard to understand at times, so I had to turn on the closed captioned. I just don't get it. Such a great show, with great action, ruined by foolish oversight, or cheaping out on production costs. I was so put off that it took me three tries before I could get through episode 1. Oh well. Still better than a lot of other productions out there....
Harry's Law (2011)
Hallmark Channel meets the Court of Law!
5 episodes into this series and I am very impressed. I thought that it was a legal comedy...but as it turns out...it has some comedic moments, but in reality, it sheds light on the immorality, corruptions, and injustices in law. In this series, true justice is shown, and heartfelt arguments are made, that can only be of Hallmark Channel scenarios. A high priced patent lawyer cracks, and then takes up shop in a part of a city (Cincinnati) that no one ever wants to acknowledge. There, true legal struggles are shown, and a lawyer decides to help, showing compassion, where most don't. It would be nice if all lawyers showed the compassion and care as Ms. Bate's character Harry does. If one likes legal dramas with Hallmark Channel endings, then this series is for you. Too bad it only has 2 seasons.
Troppo (2022)
Definitely an 8
I was very impressed with this series. Superb acting all around, and great storylines. No, it may not have action, and be a bit of a sleeper, but overall...fantastic.
The opening scene from the series is a bit of a turn off, but once you get past that, the rest falls in to a spectacular series. Can't wait for a season 2.
I don't get to see many productions that come out of Australia. The 2010 movie "Red Hill" was an under-rated masterpiece that has a lot of action.
Once I finished the first episode, I couldn't stop watching it. On and on, one must keep going as it keeps the viewer hyper focused.
Have fun...
Private Eyes (2016)
SORRY TO SEE THE SHOW GO, BUT.....
I was hesitant about checking this series out, but am glad I did. A light, innocent detective series, similar to those popular 80's shows that many still tend to remember! I steam episodes when I have time, and most are excellent at relieving the stresses of the day. But....
I was really getting tired of Cindy Sampson's lip augmentation, which began later in the series. This new look has been growing with women across several platforms. What is it with female insecurities? Ms. Sampson, and all the others, like actress Catherine Bell, looks like a freakin' clown. She has destroyed her looks by doing such....like a botched plastic surgery job. It became so much of a distraction that I had to stop watching. Is this why the popular series got cancelled out of the blue without any warning?
If you can get past this distraction, the show is a fun, light hearted escape from the usual bad-acting series that are out there these days.
Good Witch (2015)
I see why Hallmark Cancelled this awesome show
I loved this show. It was a great escape from the miseries of life. I would always feel refreshed, elated and part with a smile after every season (which I always binged). Until Season 7, where a same sex relationship was introduced. Talk about a curve ball. Hollywood has been pushing these lifestyles into many shows as of late. But this show, and the network that hosts it? Such crossed the line for the traditional family values and morals. I was irate when this was introduced in Episode 3 of Season 7. This totally threw me off and out of my comfort zone. I could no longer relax and enjoy the pleasant escape that this show had given. Because of my anger, I was glad that the show was cancelled. I am sure that it would still be going on, though, had the same sex relationship never been introduced. Oh well. Good for you Hallmark for putting your foot down. If anyone out there hasn't seen this show, it is a wonderful modern day fantasy that leaves you with that happy-tingly feeling inside...up until Season 7. Start with the series of movies, which this TV series is based upon, and go from there. A rare gem.
