Around the World in 80 Days (2021)
Wokeness again
After 3 episodes we can boil this down to.... Bumbling white rich man who needs " strong heroic women to save him from his self doubting self". The woman in the desert who is celebrated for being amoral and now married again to some camel herder and saves them. And of course another interracial romance. The only check mark missing is a gay romance. But won't finish unfortunately to find out...
To bad. Acting is good and cinematography well done.
So tired of being bludgeoned repeatedly by same wokeness in films and series today. That's why I I have to look for foreign series that aren't beholden to todays equity and lgbt agenda.
Pustina (2016)
Some Beautiful Cinemaphotograghy, 2 episodes too long
Really interesting to see that part of the world, people customs, and institutions etc. Way too long. Too many long scenes of grieving or driving etc. Had to fast forward through scenes that added nothing to the story.
Well written story and acted though. Needed edit of at least 2 hours.
Fartblinda (2019)
Should have ended after episode 6
Really good up until the bank fails. Should have ended there. Last 2 episodes not believable and boring.
Criminal: UK (2019)
Appetizer episodes for what should be multiple episode show
Very well done but after 3 short vignettes, only had me wishing for more episodes with added story and getting to know the characters in depth. Great acting with all the best brits that I have seen in other shows and series. Was surprised to see series from France, Spain, Germany. But not interested in seeing those due to the short format. Enough was enough
Give me an in depth 8-10 episode series To dig my teeth into. Not short film format
Third Eye Spies (2019)
True story that needs to be told
For content of this documentary I would give a 10. Very familiar with the history, people and solid research in the field. All now declassified by the government. So kudos for getting the story out.
Unfortunately the editing of this is very confusing even for some one who knows the history. It's jumpy and very hard to follow the threads in the story because of constantly changing the scenes while trying to tell the story. A 5 for editing.
So close to an 7-8 overall. Too bad because the story and people are amazing
GLOW (2017)
loved first 2 seasons, season 3 lost the fun
Season 3 so bad we turned it off after 2 episodes. Show became a soap opera and a bad one at that. No wrestling which made the show fun in 1st 2 seasons. Allot of these shows should just stop while there ahead
Ófærð (2015)
season 1 a 9, season 2 a 6.8
Loved the first season, the setting, the characters and the great story that was believable all the way through.
Season 2 was so so. Liked the characters but the depth of the characters was not like season 1. The 15 year old daughter in season 2 is totally 1 dimensional and annoying. It was slow. Too many episodes, and i was disapointed by the last 2 episodes
Undercover (2019)
Outstanding.
One of the best productions I've seen in a while, and all filmed in Belgium and the Netherlands. Great acting,
Writing and cinematography. Edge of my seat. Sorry it had to end.
Watched with subtitles as I thought the English dubbing was not very good
Mirzapur (2018)
Was a 10 until final 3 episodes
Great acting, characters, some very creative cinema photography, location, india...... Then
Well with all the shooting when police attempt to kill the 2 brothers and terrible foiled attempted assassination of the don?
The show really lost credibility. then the father doesn't suspect Mannu after the assassination attempt? Silly. Then the brother gets married and the wife tells him she's pregnant after 1 day?
And the brother murders 2 people at the body weight show and no police and everyone acts like nothing happened the next day?
Also one of the most graphically violent shows I've seen. Had to fast forward through some of it.
Too bad it really fizzled out in credibility. Oh did I mention the porn violence. Wow
Hanna (2019)
Starts out strong and slowly fizzles out
Good first 3 episodes but slowly goes downhill with major plot and character holes. The 5th episode where she is partying in amsterdam i think was a total waste of time that had me reaching for my tablet.
What kept me pretty engaged were the main characters acting. But by the end totally b movie ending.
True Detective (2014)
Season 3 is a pathetic bore while season 1 a masterpiece
Is it something with HBO the last year? This along with with Sharp Objects I was only able to make it through 1 1/2 episodes of each series. They are just slowwwwww, sad, sad, drudgery. Everyone is so depressed. I didnt see one smile. A monotonous bore.
My oh my how could anyone sit through 8 episodes of this show. I know a show sucks when I pick up my tablet during the show checking email.
Somebody give the writer a bottle of antidepressants fast.
Parfum (2018)
Very well done untill last 2 episodes
Great cinema photography and at maintaining a dark and foreboding style. You won't find any laughs or smiles in this series. Acting is very good. The last 2 episodes turn out to be very poorly written and baffling. Just didn't make any sense to me and was lazy writing . rated a 7 up until the last 2 episodes that fell to a 3 or 4.
Was beautiful in the 4k Dolby vision by Netflix and was amazed how well the english
was when i turned off the subtitles. Seemed almost seamless from the German.
Hakan: Muhafiz (2018)
Beautiful Istanbul, yet dreadful writing
I love international series and movies and had high hopes for this since it was filmed in Instanbul. Amazing ci ema photography. The longer I watched the more dreadul this show became. Plot holes the Sopnia Hagi couldnt fit through. Had to fast forward through the last 3 episodes. Definitely won't t be back for season 2.
Istanbul is amazing. Here's hoping Netflix can film something befitting the location.... this program was total failure.
Homecoming (2018)
Pretty good but with about 3 or 4 less episodes
Excellent acting by all. Some of the scenes with Julia and Bobby were great. Good story but could have been done in 6 or 7 episodes. I got really bored in episodes 5 thru 7 and actually fast forwarded thru parts. Dragged out scenes. Once they got to ending episodes I enjoyed it. Really interesting cinematography in many parts with top down shots and split screens.
Agree with some others. Julia's wig was annoying and she needs to put on some weight!
Craith (2018)
I tried but couldn't finish
Made it through 4 episodes. I have never seen such a slow slow series in my life. This is not Igmar Bergman slow which has meaning in taking time with scenes. This is slow without any purpose. Long drawn out ... so bored.
Too bad. Loved the scenery and location.
Not enough to pull me through 8 hours of tedium. Hey life is short.
Too much good streaming out there to waste time on this. Cut your losses and move on.
Killing Eve (2018)
Just stupid
I tried it for 2 episodes or I should say 1 3/4 and determined by that point this was just not believable in any way. I wanted to like it, but so many plot holes you could drive a truck through it.
Deleted
Safe (2018)
Really lost the believability by episode 5
Spoiler alert
Pretty compelling for around 4 episodes, then the doctor gets knifed and amazingly is lying in the hospital with no blood transfusion and is running around the next day like nothing happened. Wow.
Then I wondered why the police never investivated who was at the party....
And the ending was stupid, didn't believe for a second she would have killed that kid.
Finally Dexter was totally miscast....bad acting
Grenseland (2017)
Such a disappointing ending
So disappointed. I hung on for all the episodes. The ending is the one of the worst I have ever seen. Wow. If you want to call it an ending. I think they decided to stop filming right there.
Well a waste of the investment in time. The story had major holes through out most of the episodes and of course there had to be the politically correct gay angle that gets inserted in just about every series and or movie made today.
What a waste of time
A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries (1998)
What a Waste of Time
The movie started out a bit promising but sank after the opening scene. Who are these people and why do we care about them? The character development was so poor that I never felt like I knew who these people were. And if I have to watch another movie with Kris Kristofferson croaking one dimensionally through another movie, I will give up watching movies. He has no no emotional range whatsoever, which considering he is a main character is a major major flaw of this movie.
The plot holes are huge. Why take the time to develop the Nanny, her realtionship to the kids, her romance and then once in America never heard or mentioned again. What happened to her? Same for Francis. All that film time and then there was no goodbye, no letters . No mention again. What happened to him?
And if we knew anything about the daughter with all the supposed development of her childhood etc, why on earth does she out of no where start sleeping with anyone who will drop his pants. And that scene where the father has the boyfriend sleep over was absolutely laughable it was so bad.
The father dies and yet there is no funeral, no goodbye, no closure: cut next scene mother getting hammered again, brother moping around depressed. Mother hoisting that diary at her son who doesn't want to read it right after the father dies. Why? Why then?
This is the problem with the whole movie. A lot of things happen but because we don't know the characters. The screenplay has so many holes we never really know anything at all. It all becomes very disjointed and by the end I was laughing it was so bad. 2 stars and please no more Kristofferson(reminds me of John Wayne and Robert Mitchem, both who couldn't act or emote either)
The Mummy (1999)
A Waste of Good Screen Time
What ever happened to the good old REAL Horror movies from the 40's, 50's and early 6o's? I grew up on these watching Shock Theatre on TV and watching Vincent Price movies. But alas to the 90's when movies are made to attract the most cash which compromises everything
I have seen this movie many times and done much better ala Indiana Jones series. The script and dialogue was really very poor, some good visual efects that got wasted by making the movie tongue and cheek- oh how cute.
The best part of the movie was the opening shot which showed me the grander of how Egypt may have looked.
What kept me half interested in this pretty dreadful and know what is going to happen next was watching Evelyn. Otherwise a 5 out of 10.
Where are the great Horror pictures that really get you scared?
