When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth (1970)
Interesting look back
What is most entertaining about When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth is that like many movies, plays, and books is that you can see in them what was to come later. In When...you can see very clearly the inspirations for Quest for Fire and Clan of the Cave. Not that it is not entertaining on its own merits but seeing what was to come is a lot of fun.
The Soldier (1982)
This is awful
The Soldier is absolutely one of this worst movies I have ever seen in my life. Just name an aspect of a movie; acting, writing, directing and it is bad. Probably the worst parts are the action; a man is hit in the chest with a half-dozen bullets from a machine gun by the hero (who is flying through the air on skis at the time, don't ask) and croaks out the complete plans of the bad guys to the hero for no particular reason. And that is not the dumbest scene by far. Only rent this if you want to laugh at a movie.
Grapevine (1992)
One of the worst TV series of all time!
And that is not a joke. I watched this ill-conceived monstrosity twice. The first episode was about a married woman who slept with her married boss who beat her and fired her. Not surprisingly her husband found out about her affair and left her. The second episode was about a woman who was coming off an incestuous affair with her late brother by sleeping with her best friend's fiancee. And get this, it was supposed to be a comedy!!! Fortunately it only lasted a half a dozen episodes. I suppose if it had been on the air any longer we would have been treated to the lighter side of beastiality and pedophilia. Believe it or not CBS brought this show back in the spring of 2000 where it bombed just as quickly. Thank goodness.
First Wave (1998)
I tried to like this show but...
I tried to like this show but it is just that lame. I hate to be the fly in the ointment but this show just does not cut it.
The lead actors cannot act even a little. Honest to goodness Traci Lords never, ever changes her facial expressions, even a little. I have seen her in this and in several of her post-porn movies and I wonder if she is physically capable of anything but one single stone faced look. Sebastian Spence is no better, he is a total blank slate who tries to look intense, Rob Labelle adds a one dimensional note a hyper computer geek. The show is the most unoriginal I have ever seen. The premise is a combination of the 60's The Invaders and the Fugitive. Characters, plots of episodes, etc are all derivitative. You can watch every episode and say "They got that from the X-Files" and "That's from Star Wars" throughout the entire show. Every show. Like I said I tried to like this show but hey a little originality goes a long way. tag
Deep Down (1994)
This is awful!
This movie is so bad that reading this review is a waste of time. There is absolutely nothing to recommend this movie. I rented it because of Tanya Roberts and I figured at least I would get to see plenty of her. Wrong. Don't bother to watch it and don't even try to remember this review.
Teach Me Tonight (1997)
Just what you would expect
A nice little soft core movie that delivers exactly what you want out of it; some beautiful women and some excellent sex scenes. One thing, I cannot believe that this is the only thing the star Judy Thompson has ever done, she is just beautiful and very uninhibited!
A Place Called Truth (1998)
This is a bad one.
This is a truly awful movie. A mysterious young woman stalks a wealthy ranch family. I won't give the plot away, although I kid you not, it is so cliched that I figured out the plot and climax during the opening credits. The only thing to recommend it is the very credible performance of Sara St. James as the young woman. The directing, script, and photography are uniformly bad and for some bizarre reason all the actors affect heavy (and very bad)southern accents although the movie is set in the desert southwestern United States.
