Parallels follows the lives of estranged brother and sister, Ronan and Beatrix, who are reunited when their father mysteriously disappears. Their neurotic neighbor Harold tags along on their search for their missing father, which leads them to a building that they accidentally discover is a portal to parallel Earths. On their travels, they are joined by Polly, a seasoned traveler, who teaches them the ins and outs of jumping from one Earth to another. Ronan and Beatrix ultimately reconnect as they uncover the dark truths behind their family's broken history.

Parallels was created as a television pilot, but Fox Digital Studios morphed it into a stand-alone movie.

Goofs
The film is set in New Orleans, which is below sea level, and kept from flooding by a levee system which includes pump stations which constantly remove water from the city. If New Orleans was nuked, it would be under water, as it was when the pumps failed during Hurricane Katrina.

Found this on Netflix highly recommended based on my previous ratings of movies. Watched it. REALLY enjoyed it. Kind of like Sliders meets Lost. But here's the thing--what a total waste. Meant to be a pilot for an entire series, the "movie" so prematurely ended that not even a single mystery was explained. I'm guessing that FOX, once again, gave the axe to a promising series, but enough was filmed that someone just said, "screw it, make it a movie." The pilot is really really good. As a movie, it really really sucked. You can't just write a screenplay for a pilot and call it a movie, it doesn't work like that. It's too bad, because this is a series that I would really love to watch.
