The coffee cups Gale brings and sets on the hood are obviously empty as they fall off when they pull away without having drunk anything.
The long foot chase after turning the swap of captives into a trap makes no sense. The bad guys had time and henchmen to set it up and surely would have placed a getaway vehicle nearby.
